I'm really enjoying this mission, but the water arrows are broken for me. They either strike a surface and remain, or they evaporate doing nothing to the fires they were supposed to extinguish.

That is something complete unique to you as far as I've ever heard, and I don't know what would do that. Choose original thief 2 in darkloader and install only. Get rid of your save of TPOS in your saves folder, then try installing it again.

I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling, I updated from Darkloader 4.1 to 4.2, I am fully patched, checked that I'm up to date on the 3rd party scripts, and I've tried going back to earlier saves - nothing helps. Thief 2 works fine, and the other FM's I'm finally getting around to playing work fine. I didn't even realize it was an issue until late in the game when I reached the chimney of the Inn and found that my water arrows would lodge and then disappear, instead of splashing and dousing out the fire. If I shoot any other solid object, including AI, it'll lodge itself in mid air against the object and be fully retrievable. In fact, it will lodge in a torch, the torch will douse out, but the arrow will still be retrievable. Weird.
I was actually quite dismayed by this bug, because the mission was absolutely awesome up until I hit that wall. It reminds alot of 'Trial By Night' for TDP, which is one of my favourite Thief FM's ever made. I've moved on to playing Calendra's Legacy in the meantime, but will keep you posted if I figure out what's causing it, or if I get the issue with any other FM's.

Doesn't seem likely. Keep in mind that everyone has played this without this happening to the water crystals. A problem with the mission would make this happen to everyone, not just one person.

I am stuck in 'the power of suggestion' and there is a safe in this one room that is a puzzle and you need to find the right combination for the safe using the number pad..and i cannot get it to work
any suggestions?

Very fun mission. I could hardly believe I was up that high jumping from ledge to ledge in a fan mission. It was fantastic and unusual.
If anyone's counting, I had one water arrow stick into a torch and remain intact while putting out the torch. I think it happened when I came out of a duct (I was crouched) into a room with two guards. That's not bad though. I recently played an fm where this mage walked into a prison area and when he went round the corner he left his key hanging in midair! I love that though. Things like that - That's why I bought the game.

Glad you liked it. I don't know if you've played Thieves' Highway yet, but it's up high like this one as well.
