IF, you do find that you want to go back and check the loot in the chests that you can only get to from the acid pit and sliding spike wall trap then here's what I did...
I KO'ed someone and carried them with me to the acid pit. I set the body down near the edge of the pit, postioned myself in the corner, took a speed potion, picked up the body and rushed to the other side of the pit. Then I threw the body on the presure plate to make the spike wall slide to the end. As long as the body stays on the plate I can take my time manteling up the wall. By doing it this way I took less damage but it's not something I would want to do everyday.

Yes, there are plenty of uses for unconscious guards aren't there. I used two to initially open the tomb gates. You can indirectly kill them as well by luring them into water, etc. I never thought of using one as a door stop, or sliding panel stop in this case, :) Reminds me of Unreal, where I would plant a flower in front of a door to keep it open.
is Marius (sp?) office the one that looks like a library? i found the office at the foot of the stairs but found nothin in it
On a little sign outside you can see if it is Marius' office.
(hoipe you understand... my english is bad...)

Marius' office is the door before you get to the Library. As Pisole2K said, there is a sign outside on the wall with the name on it. Go into the second room, which is a laboratory and look for a floor mat in the corner. :)

I have a question. With the greatest of difficulty, I did make it back to where I started with Merimee. I had tried leaving her at the gates and clearing the way first, but she was gone when I got back. So I restarted from a saved game, and took her with me. That kid sure makes a lot of noise, LOL, luckily those animal sounding goons aren't too smart.
So, like I said, me and Merimee got back to where I started, and I got the objectives complete sound and notice. But when the screen of the objectives came up, all the objectives where checked off with a green check mark except for the one that says, "Don't Let Merimee Die". That one had a red mark on it as though it had failed. How can that be? Did I do something wrong, or is this a glitch? Like I said, she walked back there with me?

I imagine that must be a glitch. If you read over past threads you'll find that there are all sorts of unexplained bugs associated with Merimee.

Oh Ok, cool. Now I feel better. :)

That red mark is actually not X but (\) which means its no longer an objective to save Merimee from dying
