CCCP? I sense a conspiracy here?

How come I am not allowed to kill them but they are allowed to kill me?!

Because you're the good guy and they're all thoroughly nasty, conniving, cheating, bad guys. :)
I believe they're just knocking you out. But as someone pointed out earlier, pav or JonesCrusher possibly, you can't complete the mission if you're unconscious.

Maybe we should have made the health shields into clouds or something, to suggest that they represent consciousness instead of health. Run out of clouds, and you're unconscious. :joke:

In that case why shouldn't I be allowed to hit them with my hammer (or repeatedly with my blackjack or pick up one of their swords and hit them) and render THEM unconcious?

Amazing. Just finnished it on Legionnaire. It was really captivating. One of the best FM. And it brought something new, which is cool. And it was not that hard. I enjoyed it. Congratulations for an amazing FM.

I patched my version of this mission and am now playing through it again, this time with a more critical view. Being aware now of the hyper-sensitive AI of the blues and golds in the first encounter, I decided to see just how bad things were. After close to 10 failed attempts at getting past them, each because of a different reason, I just have to ask: Why? Why begin the FM with an encounter that has a random outcome, where the factors that determine said outcome are well outside the realm of reason for what a guard should (and should not) be able to do? They can see and hear me in pitch darkness, while I'm crouch-walking, through objects. The Moss Arrow changes nothing about this. They will rather spend time trying to get me than turn around and deal with the guard that's stabbing them in the back. At least they'll follow the Noisemaker Arrow...most of the time.
The encounter is still "doable", but right now my suggestion for the HI team is to release another version of the mission, one where this encounter is completely removed. As is, its presence does more harm than good, and deters alot of Thief players from playing on past this point. Which is a crying shame.

Will my saved games work with the patched version?
