bobber: if the filename is different, you may need to rename it.

Will my saved games work with the patched version?
No, you'll have to restart.

I'm really surprised that some people are having so much trouble with the guards in that first room. I never have them hear me or spot me as I move through the room though occasionally they end up in a position where they can see me when I get into the light up the hallway but the gas trap is a fun way to deal with them then.
Unkillable Cat, are you turning off the lights with the switch in the corner, above the toolbox? Allow the fight to finish before you try to continue through the room, as well and then sneak behind the turbine. If you move relatively slowly, you shouldn't be noticed at all.

Ghosted it on expert. Yes, that took some time, 3 hours of game play with a bunch of reloads. Found only 1 of 6 secrets (yikes!) so I'll have to go back and do some searching. I guess I'll have to see what this update is that I'm reading about now.
Some comments
The sound and visuals were, of course, wonderful. Loved the incorporation of the artwork into so many places, particularly the cathedral. The library was really stunning too.
The concept behind the mission was ambitious and exciting as a player. The black team was the coolest. Silver was annoying until I decided to be patient and use a few water arrows. I thought the blue team was a bunch of losers, though.
There were tons of readables that hinted at a larger story, but I kept wondering whether I'd get more background on the mission itself. It was hinted that each team had some specific abilities, but these weren't always clear, especially with blue, gold and red. And the sponsors of the teams weren't always given - the purples said some things about the emperor, but there's nothing on the given map. Also, why did the gold team kill the blue team members in the sewers? I picked up one of the blue bodies and it was a corpse – I thought this was graduation night. (And for that matter, why did the gold team throw Shivan into a freezing river unless they wanted to kill him?) Finally, after the initial interactions with black, blue and gold, there was no evidence of further competition between the teams. I think that could have been developed more.
Anyway, we'll see what becomes of the larger story.
turn the lights off, I've been doing it without. :laff:
I feel that differences in experience are down to how differently we do things. I was doing a beta recently and I was the only one getting stuck in a particular place. The others couldn't get stuck no matter how hard they tried. It was only when I did a video of what I was doing that they realised it was because I was moving so slowly that I kept slipping into an invisible hole. Just down to a different technique.

Nightwalker: Yes, yes and yes. The problem is that these things really don't matter, because when I go to frob the other lever in the room (which is usually the first thing I do when I enter the room) I more often than not find one of the guards swinging their swords at me. Considering the layout of the room, and the total absence of light from the room's entrance to the other lever, that should not be possible.

You need to lean around the corner to frob that wheel lever. You can also hug the wall making your way to the light switch. If you wait a few minutes, I'm uploading a video walkthrough of the beginning to YouTube as we speak and will post a link when it's done.

Cardia, check Father Bangor's office, on the upper floor of the academy, very carefully. It's in the same place as the theodocium mines.

I downloaded the new version from thiefmissions, but the readme still says it's version 1.0. It does mention Tanner in the credits and the zip file ends in v11, though.
