Stairs to the basement: I went down the one with the patrolling Silver. I went down slowly until I could see the lower half of his body as he patrolled past the stairwell entrance. He did not see me. Just as he passed the stairwell opening I went down the rest of the way and scooted into a darker section of hallway and proceeded from there. It also helps to go down stairs sideways and/or at an angle to keep from hopping or running down them.
The ramps: I used rope arrows and the stone ledges to get down and back up the ramps. Needed only one water arrow.
Sounds about how I ghosted the silvers.
I got caught in the silver hallways a few times myself until I realized that I just needed to be patient. Let the one at the bottom of the stairs pass on the way to the generator room - he'll take himself out of your way but you don't have much time, obviously. The key thing is that another silver patrols the long hallway and you need to make your move from the stairs to the laboratory (the room on the far side of the exploded floor) when that long hallway is safe as well. It seems like a long patrol route, but you might need to try a couple times from the staircase to get the timing right. You'll also have to watch out for the dude across from the lab door at the bottom of the other set of stairs. Once you're in the laboratory, you just need to get down the hallway to the room with the icon. That's where I used up a few of the nearly 40 water arrows I'd collected, though I think it might be possible to do it without any. I just didn't care to at that point.
And getting down the ramps to the catacombs, I was able to drop from the stone cross-pieces onto the wooden ramps below without taking damage or making noise (doing it from a crouch). Put enough ramps and stone pillars between you and the stationary silvers and you'll be fine, even without water arrows.

I'm really not sure what to suggest, so let's start by gathering some data.
* What are your system specs?
I have a Pentium 3, the computer is rather old, but I usually do not have much problems. I have a Radeon 9550.
* Does it crash during the loading screen, or does it crash after the loading screen goes away and before you see the first in-game screen?
It loads the entire game and instead of starting the mission, crashes to windows.
* What other mission(s) has this happened with before?
I can't remember exactly, but I think the last Rocksbourg that was a black and white tone if this is the correct mission did some funky stuff after awhile like rainbow colors. It's been several months.
* What are the timestamps of these files in your Thief folder after the mission is installed through Darkloader?
miss19.mis, 5/23/09 10:40am
HammerA.gam, 5/23/09 1:50pm
dark.cfg, 1/25/09 5:38pm
EP.crf 5/4/09 11:29pm
* What .osm files are present in your Thief folder after installing it through Darkloader? What are their timestamps?
archer.osm 3/27/00
convict.osm 3/27/00
gen.osm 3/27/00
miss1.osm thru miss16.osm all 3/27/00
That is all.

Problematic Silver guys? Why not lock three of them in the library?
Inline Image:
http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/2778/silvers.pngI tried to lure another one into the chandelier trap only to find he shrugged it off. He can't navigate the small wooden fence in front of it though, so I left him there. I wondered if the electric trap at the start might work, only to find it can't be turned back on. Damn!

Phil, I'm at a loss to suggest anything, given every other FM works for you. It's not an EP issue, as you have the empty dummy EP.crf installed, and besides the symptom of that issue is generally the game will crash when you try to pick up an object, not just on load.
Does anyone have any ideas of what he could try apart from reinstalling Thief and Darkloader?

Phil, are you sure that your downloaded mission zip is not corrupt? I heard once this problem, that the mission can be installed but the gamesys or the miss file is wrong from something and in this case the mission crashes to the desktop on load. Download again, maybe this will be the problem.

And make sure, if you have the original file with the patch, that you are in
Father Bangor's office and not Dean Bangor's office. Thanks Nickie, i was in the Dean Bangor´s Office, only then when you told me there was another office from the Father Bangor, i went there to check it, and found that well hidden switch;), mission finished, this is a Masterpiece, the Cathedral has left me speachless, very astouning, very beautifull and very detailed, great ambient musics, awsome video and gameplay, well done storyline, all very excellent:thumb:
Congratulations to the authors, and many thanks for this great mission:thumb:

This is certainly plausible. If either .mis or .gam file is corrupt it could crash like this. Phil, what are the exact filesizes of those two files when you do right-click > Properties?

The miss19 file is 20.3meg, the Hammera file is 2.25meg. I'm going to download the 1.1 version and see if that works. Actually I'm downloading the one without the movie too, just in case.
There was 1 mission that did the same thing, and I gave up on trying that one too.

Has he tried playing it through dromed and checked the monolog file for a crash error?
