T2 FM: The Seven Shades of Mercury (Hammerite Imperium #1) - 20 May 2009 - by Yandros

The texture thing sounds like a problem with your mission ZIP or installation. There are some higher res textures and higher poly models used in the mission, but nothing egregious or worse than many other missions. The highest texture resolution the engine even supports is only 256x256 so it's not like this one mission could push your PC so far past the limits compared to other missions, many of which use objects with the same level of detail and resolution. In short, I don't think those things are causing the slow framerate.

whats your pc specs...?
1.6 Ghz Pentium, Win98SE, GeForce 4 MX video card. I know it's not exactly a new computer, but I have played FMs in the past which warned about higher-than-usual hardware requirements, and so far I've only ever found two missions which would slow down this heavily: COSAS Mission X and Lord Alan's Factory.

Well, I can't help you with anything definite but, if you take out a bunch of the enemy (knock outs, traps, turning them on each other...) the fps will, hopefully, increase. It was a little sluggish for me at first but after the number of opponents decreased things started to flow properly, but your case seems more sever than mine so no guarantees.
Hmm... I thought that Thief was programmed so that AIs beyond a certain distance of you would go inactive, exactly to lower CPU usage. Just curious, how many AI's are supposed to be simultaneously active in this FM?

I believe you are correct, however this still seems to work, at least for me.

Looked through the whole thread and only saw 1 other with almost the same issue. Using Garrettloader, mission loads fine and you can choose difficulty level but anything beyond that it crashes to desktop. Saw in readthrough for mission it was made for Darkloader so installed that and tried it. Same thing happened. My system is plenty hot to run this mission, I have no enhancement packs installed and have no trouble running FM's generally. Did anyone else have this problem?:grr:

If it crashes just after loading the mission, it may be the movie that's crashing you. Have you tried playing the no movies version?

I just want to say congrats to all contributors that finally got this wonderful FM released. I have been following it's progress off an on for many a year, lol, and was absolutely amazed at the wonderful artistry I was able to see from time to time when they first started showing screen shots, etc. Unfortunately I still cannot play any of the past years newly released FM's as I don't have my computer back yet that has all my Thief stuff in it.
Currently my newer computer is out of business due to a possible problem with vid card, so have it packaged and ready for mail tomorrow for a RMA looksee. I sure hope I'm right about it being the source of my major problems but if I'm wrong it's only going to cost me $15. for shipping costs. I can't exchange it out to test since I don't have my other computer. :(
However, again let me say in relation to this FM, I shall definately have it on my top priority to play it when able. Thank you Alexius! :)

I gotta admit to playing this again yesterday. It's unusual for me to play an FM so many times. Only about two dozen FM's from the entire FM library are on that list. It's just a work of art.

...and I still can't bring myself to actually finish it. :weird:

Just goes to show you that one man's trash is another man's treasure. Potential FM authors could take that into consideration. They may make a mission which I can't bring myself to finish, but which YOU love.:)
