T2 FM - Three Crowns Dec. 7/07 - by bbb

This got to be one of the most epic FMs if not THE most epic one. It just goes on and on and on.
I am not a fan of the first - city - section, as it felt to me almost like computer generated, some places and spaces don't make much sense, like small corridors that lead nowhere, and questionable texturing. I was actually thinking of quitting a few times, but then I got to the real meat of this mission and there went my whole evening.
I think the author deserves a Nobel prize or something for his titanic work.

Awesome mission, very diverse. Though almost a bit too long for my taste but still very nice! :) I found over 10.000 loot but only 1/7 secrets, so I guess the missing loot is in those secrets :D
Thanks for this bbb!! :thumb:

Where is Keeper Mark? He is not where I found him and there is a locked unpickable door.
Still playing thief 2 for over 20 years. Going for 30.

i can help
if you got all three crowns he will appear in room where he was when he told you what to do,then he opens the door for you so you can place the crownsif he is not there you got some kind of error i think

That must be it. I am in the room where he gave me the mission. I have all three crowns but he isn't there I may have to replay the mission I guess.

Bedwine: There should be a key on the table and he's in a room past a door where originally he gave you the mission (the key to the city gate was on the same table at the beginning, but this is a different key now)
Just finished playing this for the first time, whoa, sprawling mission. I actually tried playing it a few months ago but I was at 1 health for a long time in the rat tunnels so I gave up on it, then I guess I haven't played Thief in a couple of months so I picked it back up when I got the Thief craving again : )
Very cool mission, especially loved the city part, and really liked all the rope arrow climbing which I am always a fan of...there are just a few things stopping me from rating this to the highest tiers: I spent the longest time looking for pond door key #2...I was even looking in the right spot because it made sense from a level layout perspective that it would be in the lava area, and even was randomly clicking all around the room, but I still missed it; I don't know if there's a bug with the physics of the key and it gets knocked off the table by the fireballs or what, or if it's placed on the floor to begin with, but including this key pixel hunt in such a huge level when it could have just as well been naturally sitting on the table was pretty offputting; I also really disliked the inclusion of the note from the author to the player with his e-mail near the end...very immersion breaking and I don't think this should be ever done! :p
The writing in general was a pretty mediocre level compared to what I'd expect from a top-tier level, but not terrible. Anyway, I'm only stating the stuff I disliked because it's a shorter list than the stuff I liked: the level design, varied settings (I completely forgot a few hours into it it started as a city level...), good difficulty level of the enemies and jumps (not too frustrating \ impossible, but fun and challenging). I'd give this a solid 4/5 stars on my list, with a bit more interesting \ better writing and the exclusion of the unnecessary key pixel hunt I would bump that up to 4.5 or 5. I also think I would have fun replaying this because I do enjoy these levels with a lot of rope jumps, and I did enjoy replaying the first part I had to.
Total time: 4h 20m
Loot: 10,006
5/7 secrets I think

Just wanted to say - all these years later - that this is the best FM I have ever played. Just completed October 2022! I don't think anything will ever compare. An absolute masterpiece. xx

This was one of the most enjoyable Thief FMs I've ever played. What an adventure! Pure genius design & story-telling with having to try too hard. The balance between adventure and mystery were perfect in my opinion. I'm saddened to read that the author has passed away. May the lord God in heaven remember him.
