I've got to say, this mission was a great way of coming back to Thief FMs after a pause of two years. I especially liked how the author incorporated a Thief 1 vibe through revised textures, objects and AI meshes. As someone who never really warmed to the visuals of baseline Thief2, I've got to say this mission looks just right! It was also great to see
sinister and murderous pagans after so many cutish portrayals
.
The level building is just awesome. Complex 3d environments are very hard to do; few people can really build one. Purah's missions were great examples of such work, and I think ROFB comes close to his excellence. Overlapping levels, sub-levels, balconies, hidden connections and all those little extras make the whole all the more convincing.
Finally, the goals were fun and the puzzles interesting (although I kept a good 30 minutes looking for a certain lost key), plus there were a lot of neat little touches - like the
lost lute
or the
spider tunnel
.
So, all in all, this mission isn't just great - it should also serve as a model for others to come, esp. since it is very hard to do something fresh with a manor mission! I hope someone will also do a "proper", huge T1-style city mission like Lorgan's Web one day, where you can break into several apartments and just run around making havoc. That would be really cool!
[edit]One more thing: the graphics in this mission are nothing but amazing. This proves that with a few updated textures and neat features (like the moonlight shining through the windows), T2 can compete with, and outperform T3![/edit]

Is it really possible to get in Harpers at the start? Says specifically you can get through the gate in the readme. I've proceeded over the Mansion wall and expect I can get in Harpers later but curious as to how it is done. Searched this thread but could not find anything. Things wot I have tried:
Woke sleeping guard to see if he would open the gate but he ignored me.
Tried lockpicks of course on lockbox
Tried several broadheads at the lever
Tried leaning, stretching, crouching frobbing lever
Tried blind frobbing at various points (mmm.. didn't try sleeping guard.....)
Tried making a commotion.
Tried ropes on anything that looked remotely ropeable.
Tried waiting for the lockbox to go rusty in the rain and fall off
Tried hanging myself with a rope arrow
What am I missing?
Looks terrific btw. It's all been said - superb, ideal shadows light for stealthing so far. :thumb:

There's a key. It's worn by a man sleeping behind a gate. :)

Thanks NW. That was the one thing that occurred to me that I had not tried just as I wrote that post. :thumb: Now I have worked round from the other direction! This mission is great!
The old woman is sleeping for now...wait until the Lord's ghost tell you to meet him in the old woman's room. She won't appear before.

I've reached this point. I've done the testament thing - neat! Nearly missed that. And gave the notary to the spiders (sadly one dead spider).
Marton's voice tells me to meet him in the old woman's room but which room do I go to? I went back to what I think must be Garange's room where I met the ghost before but nothing.BTW, Scarlett is still lying there injured/sick? I expected Garange to look after her. Is Garange male or female? Is she the old woman? Done OK so far but my only option I can think of now is to go through every room in the house till something happens. I must have missed something - but enjoyable so far.
I worked it out now. The map has the coal chute in the south west but it's in the south east. So when I went into the open door I thought I was heading east into the cloister (religious retreat by definition, mention of 'sanctuary' reinforced my belief) as it is shown on the map. But in fact I was heading north to a separate private 'house' off the top of the map. Since I did not find the way I assumed I'd missed a key to one or both of the locked doors I went back in the main mansion. When I came back much later I finally found the sanctuary then went off for the two new objectives. Garance was described as being like a mother to Scarlet; I assumed Garance to be an old woman servant. 'Women's'(plural) in the log and 'kitchen' I took to be the mansion kitchen as I did not see the other kitchen till much later.
So now back to the little house and see the old woman in the parlour but no Lord Marton who I am supposed to meet. Check all the other rooms. No ghost. So the question still stands - which is the old woman's room? And if it is the parlour then where is the ghost? All other objectives completed.

If I remember correctly you need to go upstairs to her bedroom.

Fidcal :
You're in the right building. Steal the grey key on the little cabinet behind the sitting old lady (it's against the wall adjacent to the cloister) and go upstairs.
This key unlocks the old woman's quarters and the ghost should be waiting for you there. :D
Oups : You're too fast for us all NightWalker, and of course you're absolutly right... :cheeky:

OK, thanks both. Did I miss that key earlier or was it not there earlier. No matter, I can now proceed... :thumb:
