I was just wondering if the difficulties some people have posted on regarding mantling around in the caves has discouraged some people from downloading and playing the mission. So far there have only been 69 downloads from epithumia's site, whereas some mission that have been up for only a day or two have well over 100 downloads already. Why is no one playing the mission?

So...i just read delphos' story about being a kid and the ice cream and how all the adults took care of him and how much her cares for those people, along with others where he is wanting to help the poor and pay for potions and and and and.....in all the other missions, i never FELT like i was doing anything wrong....for some reason i am feeling just a little slimey!!!! i am expecting to run into some twist that reveals the guy truly is a slime :erg: :p

Going back since the mission was released, I count 228 total downloads from unique IPs. That's certainly better than 69. And if I recall correctly, thiefmissions.com is not the only place hosting this mission, so the actual total is bound to be higher.

Despite a little bit of initial frustration (that damn decoy air-hole was quite a trick! grr!) I made it through the caves without dying and I found myself thoroughly enjoying this mission.
I do agree that I felt a bit bad stealing from Delphos, what with him having struggled to earn his money the hard way, but then I thought "If I don't take it, it'll just end up helping some poor kid" :ebil: Hehehe... just kidding. Sorta.
Interesting premise, if a bit environmentally-preachy :cheeky: but very well written and beautifully executed. The mansion itself is amazing, I think the houses in this mission have the most modern feel of any in the whole Thief oeuvre (in terms of accoutrements and layout etc.)
All and all, this was a great mission, and an incredibly promising debut.
Kudos! :thumb:

Interesting premise, if a bit environmentally-preachy but very well written and beautifully executed.
Once when John James Audubon was in Labrador in Canada observing puffins and petrels, he observed that 17 men butchered twenty-five hundred seals in three days. He observed the commercial eggers and feather hunters working and wrote: “The people gather all the eider down they can find. they kill every bird that comes their way. So constant and persevering are their depredations that these species, exceedingly abundant twenty year ago, have abandoned their ancient breeding places. This war of extermination cannot last many years more. The eggers will be the first to repent the disappearance of the myriads of birds that made Labrador their summer residence.” He also noted: “We talked of the wild country around us and the enormous destruction of everything, except the rocks, which is going on here. The aborigines are melting away before a stronger race, as the wild animals are disappearing before them. Nature herself is perishing. Labrador must shortly be depopulated of every thing and every animal which has life and attracts the cupidity of men. When her fish, game, and birds are gone, she will be left alone, like a worn out field.”
Audubon also held a view of conservation ahead of his time. While even today we shoot crows and try to eradicate them from fields, we use pesticides to control grubs. Audubon was an ornithologist who was well aware of the nature of crows and their problems, yet he still said: “I endeavor to speak of the crow with all due impartiality, not wishing to conceal its faults nor its merits. I can well assure the farmer that if it were not for the crow, thousands of cornstalks would every year fall prostrate, being cut over close to the ground by the destructive grubs called cut-worms.” Funny isn’t it that we kill grubs, then must kill crows because they eat crops for lack of grubs? Yet we know that a single crow’s stomach can contain up to 200 crop destroying caterpillars. He foresaw the destruction of the natural habitat, the disappearance of the buffalo, and so many other things that others overlooked. He died in 1851, even before the onslaught of the industrial revolution.
I thought that since Karras and the Mechanists were polluting Dayport and none of the plants were surviving, it would be interesting to put a couple of characters with similar insights ahead of their time like Audubon.:)
