Thanks Hit, better late than never. Thanks for all your help on the mission as well. Who's Jeff....what mission?
Nightwalker on 27/7/2003 at 12:33
Jeff would probably be Schwaa and I would imagine it's "Left for Dead", though I can't for the life of me imagine why it would only be at 7! Only people who didn't like it must be voting! (Except for me and I rated it considerably higher than that.)
Actually, I just checked some of the ratings and it seems like that's the case for a lot of FMs. Even Rowena's Curse, which has been raved about, is only rated at a 7 right now. I think some of the people who LIKE these missions should get over there and vote to even things up. Same thing for Lord Alan's Fortress. Actually, almost all of the ratings are quite low for missions of the same calibre. Calendra's Legacy is at 8, as is Inverted Manse. Weird!
Hit Deity on 27/7/2003 at 17:15
I have a sneaking suspicion that there may have been someone trying to negatively-influence the ratings. Some of them are ridiculously low.
uncadonego on 27/7/2003 at 21:21
Calendra's Legacy is at 8? That seems almost impossible! Doesn't it have almost two hundred votes? I thought it was the highest rated mission of all time so far?!!?? As for the other two, I haven't been up on my FM's lately, with building and all (sad irony: you build FM's because you love Thief, and it leads to playing it less!) I'm off to The Circle right now (well, after I check Dinky's reply in my other thread)

I just checked out the T2 missions. Some of the ones you think would have the best scores are just average, for example The Inverted Manse is at 8. A good score, but it has 283 votes. That means out of a possible 2830 points (283 voters-all who could give a potential 10=2830) he has roughly about 2264 points (some leeway since the numbers are rounded off).
Now, assuming he is at that point, I just did imaginary voting on my calculator. In order to get his average down below the 75.0 mark (where it seems any lower would drop the average from an 8 to a 7, I had to give the mission 23 consecutive votes of only 1 point! And that is assuming he started off with 2264 out of 2830. If he did just recently fall just below 8.5 (which would seem right if he had a 9 just lately) it may take almost double that. So to bring the mark from a 9 to a seven would probably take 40 consecutive votes of only 1 out of 10, and that's assuming his 9 was an 8.51, not a 9.49!!!!!
For a minute, I almost thought the MadBull thing may have some merit, but the math seems too overwhelming. Who's got no life enough to sit at their computer, vote, go into the cookies to delete the cookie, vote again, do it again......... over 40 times????
I checked Rowena and it only has 27 votes, just a few ones could drop her from a 9 to an 8, but if everyone who is ranting about the mission (I'm taking Nightwalker's word, I haven't been following any threads for quite a while) would get off their keester's and vote for her, she'd probably have a nine.
The 7th Crystal still has a 9 out of 10 and only has 216 votes, not 283 like the Inverted Manse. Why wouldn't the nutcase attack the smaller voting sample, so they could drop that mark more easily???? It doesn't add up.
It only takes one person to yell fire to get everyone panicking.
OK what I am going to say is NOT serious. It is just to demonstrate how easy it is to spread suspicion:
MadBull doesn't like the votes. MadBull is German. Two of the three FM builders whose ratings MadBull is decrying are also German.
MadBull doesn't like the vote results, so MadBull lets everyone know that all they have to do is delete there cookie and they can vote again. MadBull calls for mass voting to raise scores they don't agree with. MadBull would like to indiscriminately remove all ones from Christine's votes. Stuffing the ballot box in favour of Christine, or stuffing it with 1's against everyone else, what's the difference. Therefore, I suggest to you that the perpetrator is obviously MadBull.
Of course, that is ridiculous. However, let's ALL keep a close eye on a few key famous missions.
Art of Thievery 8 of 10...............110 votes
7th Crystal 9 of 10...............216 votes
Inverted Manse 8 of 10.............283 votes
Benny's Dead 7 of 10..............171 votes
Calendra's Legacy 8 of 10.........158 votes
Embracing The Enemy 7 of 10..........118 votes
Insurrection 8 of 10................60 votes
Karras' Diary 9 of 10................87 votes
Equilibrium 8 of 10..............125 votes
Saturio Returns Home 7 of 10.....100 votes
As of today. MadBull, you could write down all the rest if you want, dated today. Again, note that it would have been much easier for a nutcase to drop the scores of Insurrection to a 7 than dropping Inverted Manse to an 8. Way easier.

 GASP!!!! I made it out of the caverns!!
Good grief man, are you crazy?? Those things... they are evil. :erm: I will tell you this, though--you made me actually use a flare. I felt like Lara Croft, jumping around those caves. :ebil: Owwh YEAH!!
Ok, now's a great time to go to bed, and rest. Me, not Garrett. Wowowow. :thumb: Amazing mission so far--can it get better??? Seems it can. More later......

Why yes, yes I am.
I'm glad people are still finding it and enjoying it. Thanks Talon. I hope you enjoy the rest of it. Getting out of those #%*/@ caves is just the start of the mission.

Whoa! Doesn't answer my question? I just wondered if you'd thought about the possible contradiction, that's all.....talk about long-winded answers.:sly:
No that's great unca....answer's good enough for now.
Women......????? What are those???
Hey, what about if Manse was just hanging around 8.5 for years now, and just went 8.4? See, unca, brevity is the soul of wit.
Man talk about your long-winded, pompous, self-absorbed..............
:joke:
Thanks for the reply unca.:thumb: :)

Since I'm so close to finishing Mixed Messages I thought I'd bring up the sequel to Two Fathers.....called The Time That Has Passed.
I figured the comments and screenies on this thread would jog your memories a bit about Two Fathers, since it was so long ago.
What sort of things, architecturally, gameplay wise, sound wise, etc., would make the sequel better for you than part 1?
You could even use direct comparisons here if you want (eg. : Two Fathers was pretty quiet......would it have killed you to put a conversation or two in the whole game somewhere?....) Or any other type comments.
As soon as Mixed Messages is out there, I'm taking a month or two off Dromed to catch up on some household things, but then I'm on with the sequel, so if you want some input here's the place.
Thanks....
P.S. You can be as blunt as you want, but don't be downright nasty.:(
