Thanks guys - I'll start again and go up the ladder this time!

LOL! In all the times I've played this mission (and it's a LOT of times) it never once occured to me to try getting back up that hole! Obviously none of the other betatesters thought of it, either or it would have been fixed. :)

I am way passed the beginning but I didn't go in the
house across the street to get my stuff. I went over there, up the stairs and there are two thieves facing each other. How do you take 'em out while they are facing each other?
If you move slowly enough, your light gem will stay dark enough to blackjack the guy with his back to you. Then inch forward a touch more, lean forward (my keybind is alt+w) and blackjack him from the front.

OK, now I'm stuck again - at the same point that SexyPat was - the wall that you can partly climb up. I know Nightwalker says you can go all the way up, but I've been trying for nearly two hours now and I just get two thirds of the way up and then can go no further. I'm usually quite good at mantling and climbing. Is this really the only way? Any further tips Nightwalker? Thanks in advance

(same keybind by the way)

If you're quick enough with the blackjack, you can bop the second AI before they have time to react, although it's funny when they slump to the ground unconscious, and THEN say "Oh my God, there's a... a... dead guy in here!" :)

Kimberley,
That tall wall has a high end and a low end. Try the middle. Walk up tight to the wall, as close as you can get. Then back up a half-step. Run forward and hop at the same time.
Terens- Lonzboy is right, it's dark enough that the other won't go on high alert. If you hit the first guy from as far a distance as you possibly can, they usually fall backward instead of forward, making it an even more sure thing.
Lonzboy-Yes, I was fiddlin' with words again, but I don't want to write any more for now than what is in the story. In the summertime I'm going to start part 2.

... I did not know that.
I am usually pretty good at the jump out quick and bop the guard in the split second before they go on alert but the first thief right out of the manhole got me everytime... so I was skiddish about trying it... I may have to start over. damn spiders....

Teren- if you jump the ladder from the right height, you land on the ground with no sound. I'm not sure exactly what that point is, but it's not the very top of the ladder. A bit lower. Really no sound at all. Stay close to the wall and hit him from the farthest away you possibly can.
