I did various things. I find myself in the inner tunnels, how do I neutralize the barrier that surrounds the wizard?

Here is a list of what I have in my inventory/done, a hint please on what to do next:
I have crumb's key, the key with skull on it, basement key. I have the ornate knife.
everybody I can find is dead or knocked out. the apeman in the "jail" cell is knocked out.
I read about a dispel potion in Stephanus' room but don't find it and don't have it. Read the scroll under the armoire, and found a secret place/hidey hole.
I magentized the hook and goot the metal hammer and some loot.
Here is a list of things I have not been able to do:
unlock metal door at top of stairs after gate as raised
put boiler unit in tub to affect electrical system
solve chess puzzle
do anything with the dead wizard's body and the bucket of blood
open the protected box in the library
unlock the box in the bedroom upstairs with the frogbeast outside of it
found anything to put in the mold? in the secret spot in the room where the strobelight is found.
What am I missing to proceed?

The order to do the next couple of things:
1. Tub - not the boiler, look for strobe lamp in storage room before you enter the area with the big ape at foot of stairs. (downstairs from the locked box/frogbeast)
2. Protected box in library. You need the dispel potion. I first played on normal and think it was on top of shelves in Stephanus' room. Also grab Neatly rolled scroll.
What to do with dead mage should fall into place after that.

That opens a doorway in the next room. It's a bonus objective and you don't need the hammer again.
