You use the scalding blood in the room you reach through the magic ward in the ceiling of the central room of the inner tunnels, just before you get to Versaw who's trapped. When you've done that, Versaw will be free.

Walked away from it for a day... came back, re-read the thread... and...
I thought Dumbass or Dingrade or whatever the hell made up BS name he has' key was supposed to open the box with the ring in it -- no go... So just what in blazes key does open it?
I really should just go play some other mission that doesn't piss me off.

The key to open
the portal box is under the shelves behind the curtain outside Versaw's room.
But I agree with you. If the mission pisses you off, just pass on it. I did try my best. I know the puzzle solving is not for everybody. An easier version is on its way though. Sorry in advance if the added stress causes you a heart attack.

Maybe it was the lighting (or lack therin) but I never would have guessed that was a curtain. Looking closer I now realize it's the same texture as the red curtains in the conservatory (or library in your version), but with that muddy brown color it looks more like cheap pine-board than curtains.
Almost got stuck up with the urn that you put the scalding urn of crud on as when I used the ring a second time I got stuck in the magic barrier -- alternating between jump and using the ring finally freed me.
Of course I finally got to mord... mo... whatever his name is, for the life of me can't figure out what climbing the crystals has to do with anything since they're nowhere near where you need to be, and can't be climbed! I ended up crab-running up one of the steel beams instead, which let me use the sceptre only to find out I was stuck at the top and couldn't hop down before the portals closed
That was ok though, since it crashed to desktop when the demon finally took down whats-his-name... funny since I had thought the proper script file had fixed the crashes -- missed one.
-- edit -- and it crashes trying to load the savegame from before I entered the portal... so back to an older save before I went through the curtains masquerading as pine panels.
Oh, and it would be nice if when you stick your hand in the portal to get the ring it actually TOLD YOU that the ring was added to your inventory instead of silently placing it there with no queue's to tell you that it's been added -- instead of having the player sit there frobbing the pointless portal in a box for a few minutes going "Now what?" -- cylcing through the inventory going "does anything I have work on this" and then going "Hey, what's this?"
Tried it three times just to be sure I didn't miss it... ZERO indication it did anything. Stealth pickpocket sneaked up behind Garret and slipped it in?

Mortus? There's a speed potion in Mortus' study area to help you up.
A new, hopefully crash-free version, is being tested at the moment. I didn't get any crashes so I'm not much use there. :)

i can´t bring up the ring from the inventory in this area, what happened?

Did you get the ring? What level are you playing cardia?
