Great mission so far! Plays out very Monkey Island-esque...hey, it even has meathooks!
Been at it for about an hour per day over the last five evenings. It starts to get a bit boring now since I'm quite stuck. I won't ask for help just yet (so please don't answer!), but I might get more desperate later.
Loose ends for me involve:
- Four items in my inventory that I haven't found a use for yet (empty bottle, key with a skull, foul-smelling goop and an ornamental dagger)
- Plenty of places where things light up but nothing happens when I frob them (with or without holding said inventory items). Really intrigued by (among other things) the 'I see something in there but can't reach it with my bare hands' comment, the magnetic rock, the two locked money boxes and the 'magical' brazier.
- 'Furnace', the letter puzzle from Dinarde about where a key is hidden. It must be from him because it makes a lot of sense. Been searching like crazy around all three places that resemble furnaces with no success.
- Looks like there is a secret passage in the back wall of the library. Crouching and forward-leaning sometimes lets me look inside the passage. I can't find a switch in here but there are so many curtains where it would be easy to hide one...

Okay, now I want a gentle push as to what I am missing. :p

As in:
- the answer is in the readables
or
- examine books/bookcases more closely
?

Your first comment about meathooks should help with the rock and the 'I can't reach it bit'.
You need to read Stobbs' diary carefully re: the foul-smelling goup and another item you need. Once you've got that bit done you'll be able to unlock the box in the library which will get you a lot further. And the other things that you've mentioned will be useful once you've killed the demon. Concentrate on that bit after you've unlocked the box in the library.
Edit. And re: the the secret passage, you'll find something to get that open a bit later.
The furnace is not so far from the hole in the wall.

Thanks nickie. I had re-read all the other readables but had completely forgotten I was carrying a diary!
Everything unfolded in a pretty logical manner now. I had been too scared of the demon to actually move around in that place (I was still on my virgin no-reloads run)...
Had some severe technical problems, though. I heeded the advice about using mainly the quicksave, but that backfired like crazy. The game crashed during a quicksave and that crash also wiped out the quicksave file so I had a big rollback to early hard saves. Then I started to do hard saves more often which went well for a while. But soon after discovering the Rumford crypt , the game crashed during a save. Out of the 4 hard saves I had, one was completely wiped (empty slot now), one couldn't be loaded without crashing and the other two were corrupted (all my inventory and weapons were gone, and there was a silly little white '4' (same text style as the in-game texts) a bit below half screen...)
(Never had that before - other save slots getting corrupted)
So I replayed the whole thing in one go - almost made it, but wasn't fast enough to make it out of the pseudo realm.

Were you using the updated version?

I think so - the one I used is called v1.1

That's the updated one, yes. Don't know what to say, I'm afraid, apart from a lot of swear words!

Sorry to anyone still experiencing the crashes. I tried fixing the problems as best as I could. It seemed promising that the problems were solved, but obviously some bugs still exist. I know that the random crashes are probably the single worst thing to happen while playing. I wish I could've done better. I hate putting so much time into it only to release a buggy product.
