That's usually a problem with missing or corrupted book art settings.

Btw forgot to mention, you don't need to read that note, basically it says the basement is condemned because of researches and strange events.
but if it crashes with this one, it may crash with another readable.
Do you play with a modified installation of T2, like using NV's thief enhancement pack or something ?
