I can't believe this has been out over a year and I've only just found it
I've just played through Depart and I have to say it's impressive, it would still be impressive even with stock textures and objects but they do fit nicely and suit the mission to a T, so a big thumbs up for this :thumb:
I totally missed the secrets, and had to find this thread to find out where they were the I should have found the heart shaped box though :nono: that was very sloppy of me
I really enjoyed this mission, it was hard but not impossible (... well ...see next chapter), such puzzles as there were such as how to get into certain rooms were well constructed, switches were well placed, I really really really enjoyed this mission
right up until I found the unkillable, undamageable, unslowdownable, totally taffin lethal zombie in the escape proof cage that has nowhere to hide and isn't big enough to run around until the taffin door opens and lets you escape
first time round it was "oh cool" :cheeky: "I'll just run round it and make my escape through .. the ...door.........thats firmly locked behind it ? OW it hit me! TAFFFFFFFFF!" runrunrunrunrunrunrun dead :weird: "hmmmm lets just reload and try that again shall we ... oops" dead, reload .. dead, looking in here for hints showed that it could be done, so I persevered and this basically turned into
repeat
reload
try something else
die horribly
until (several hours have passed, my head is exploding and my eyes feel like someones roasted them and put them back in)
at which point I was considering giving up
however for the first time ever and to my eternal shame :nono: I resorted to dromed, got in game mode, loaded my save, waited for the killer to arrive, flew up high and waited for it to get bored before making an exit then saving again and going back to a normal game :( it's the first and last time I've ever cheated at thief and I am not proud of it
I'm sorry I will go back one day and do it properly believe me but I spent an easy two and a half hours in this one taffin room getting killed over and over and over and over and I'm gonna have nightmares about that
but my shortcomings notwithstanding it is an excellent mission

Well, better late than never huh ? :)
About the demon, I would have never expected someone would have had so much trouble dealing with him.
A simple thing is to turn around the cage, with him following you right behind. You mustn't walk too fast or he won't follow you and join you through the middle of the cage, but you surely mustn't walk too slow or he'll get you. When you get the idea it's a great challenge :cheeky:

Actually, I found the demon was insanely easy to deal with, thankfully.
When he first came in, he gave me a fairly good whack before I could respond, but I crouched and just kept moving, kept circling the cage - and you can use your mouse to scroll through the items so you can chow down on food or a healing potion to get your health back up again. Meanwhile the other door is opening and if you keep moving as soon as its open enough for you to get under it while crouched, you can scoot under, stand up and run while the demon still has to wait for it to open all the way. (Ah the joys of the ai not being able to bend. . .lol) If I'd tried a second time it probably would not be too hard to crouch and get moving before it even hits you the first time. I definitely found the key was to keep moving. . .and at least by being crouched he wasn't as sure to hit when he did swing.
I can't go through the portal just past the secret door in the black market. What have I done wrong? Why wont it let me through? Do I need to do something special with the glyphs?

Normally you just have to go into it and you're teleported somewhere. I often had bugs with teleport traps, I think it comes directly from the DarkEngine. If it doesn't work you just need to get out of it and go into it again, generally it does the trick with me.

Ah might be a problem with my theif games in general (if it's a teleport portal) as in the normal theif game and FMs that have teleportation areas I just don't go anywhere. I've been given some advice on how to resolve this problem so hopefully when I have done this I'll be able to finish some of the FMs I've been having trouble with
Many Thanks

WOW just finished the second mission and all I can say is it was superb :thumb:
DrK you are a devious ....person ;) if I ever want a switch concealing in more or less plain sight in my house I'm calling you
the only minor complaint I have, and it is minor was that the ambient noise was a little loud, but I coped .... which is more than can be said for the AI's, I think I left 4 standing and one of them was a combatbot :ebil: so I'm fairly happy
I'll give it a month or two for my heart rate to calm down and hopefully forget some of the details then I think I'll have a go at these two again
you are probably fed up answering this but hows progress on the third installment going ?
I think I'll go and have a little lie down now as I've been playing this all day and my eyes won't focus any more  :cheeky:

Glad you enjoyed playing it. :)
About the ambient sounds, Bikerdude told me about it during beta-testing, but I was convinced it came from his sound installation as I had no problems at all with them. Guess I was wrong, but he did a sound patch to soften the ambient sounds. You can find it in the very first post.
And as I already said a few days ago ;) third part is going slowly but surely. I've almost finished adding life to the level. There is an old Rocksbourg 3 preview here : (

Expect an update in the coming days :p

:wot:
WOW ! if these play anything like the last two this one will be fantastic
you da man :thumb:
I'm loving this story (despite the unkillable zombie experience), I'm even going to add you to the list of authors I will buy beer for should you arrive on my doorstep :cheeky:
stop laughing, this is a very exclusive list I'll have you know
the only problem with the imminent release of part three is that then I'll have to wait for part four and know that there will only be two more after that :(
but in the meantime, a new mission is nearly here woooooooot :cheeky:
