Don't drink and phone...:cheeky:
Next time, record it for the community. Maybe one could even integrate it into a fan mission?:joke:
And now for something more serious...
I have thought about the "ambient sounds too loud" problem, and I think it may be something that differs between english versions of
Thief and versions in other languages. As DrK wrote somewhere, none of the french taffers had a problem with the ambient sounds. I am using a german version, and the ambient sounds were okay as well.
However, when I play the english demos of
Thief, everything which is spoken seems to be more silent than in the german versions of
Thief and
Thief 2. Some FM's movies with english language could also use a somewhat higher volume. For example, the movies of
Ruins of Originia come to mind, which I had to play at least two times to understand what was said.
Apparently, english conversations are recorded with a lower volume than german and french ones. Maybe that is the reason why english voices are hard to understand with loud background sounds. If that is the case, mission authors could stuff a version of the ambient sounds at full volume into sub-folders called "french" and "german" (and possibly some others), while more silent versions of these sounds would be placed in the "english" sub-folder. Darkloader or Garrettloader should do the rest.
On the other hand, that would bloat a mission considerably, and one should at least convert those sounds to the MP3 format.
Of course, if there's just one player out there with an english version and
no problem with these ambient sounds, then all my oh-so brilliant ideas are wrong.
[EDIT] Just compared some sound files from the english and french versions of "Embracing the Enemy" ("Embrasse ton ennemie"), and indeed the french ones are louder than the corresponding english ones.

It makes sense. That's very interesting, I never really noticed but the problem may come from this.
It's not really my fault then... ? :p

Just uploaded a Ghost report for Rocksbourg 2 at (
http://home.online.no/~ajnilsen/hn/hn.htm) my site (FMs section) if anyone is interested. Couldn't successfully Supreme it, but managed to Ghost missing only 100 loot. :)
