T2 mission "Hunting Treasure" 10/05/09 -updated (Italian Language added) - by Cardia

I didn't enjoy this mission. I tried to be open-minded and I played it through to the end, but IMO this mission is lacking... a lot.
This is just my opinion.
It starts out looking nice enough but the rooms all look the same. And for its purpose it's much too large IMO.
The lighting needs some serious fixing since it is broken the way it is now.
What was the reasoning for having this mission take place on Neptune? Couldn't it have just been some ruin somewhere on Earth (or whatever you call it in Thief)?
Same goes for the mentioning of the spaceship and the orcs... Why orcs??
Nothing in the mission or the design requires it to take place on Neptune, and neither does it require or get better by including orcs.
The first part is just plain frustrating because you are either forced to ghost (and that being made even worse by the lighting) or -and this goes only if you know what to do already- going for the mad dash into the crypts (as someone described earlier).
Something I didn't like at all - and which IMO points to the reason of the weakness of the mission- were the hint scrolls.
Why inlcude them on all levels? And why include them at all?
It seemed kinda ridiculous that the Keeper would do something like that.
The second part was slightly better since there was some nice action going on adn some fun gang wars. Only spoiled by the fact that it was orcs...
But the ensuing keyhunt and the riddles were either frustrating or silly.
Frustrating( at least for me) because the key that was invariably found on the other side of the castle.
And silly (again, IMO) because the hint scrolls were... badly implemented.
1) Who is this that adresses the reader as mortals? (Btw, why are we adressed in the plural??)
2) IF you want to include a riddle then don't have the solution lying right next to it, in plain sight.
The loot hunt was a little tedious and -in the crypts especially- repetitive and tiresome. Ladder up, ladder down. Lader up, ladder down.......
This is actually the first time that I felt burdened by the need to get all the loot.

Are you finished? now ask yourself, what do you grant by wasting your time writting all this long page just to give a very negative critic? i tell you nothing, because for some reason i´ve made the mission like the way it is, and i enjoy it the way it is, you´re not my client , i´m not dependent of this mission to survive in life, i´m not gonna sell it to you, this is a gift for my friends, so quit pissing me off...serously it makes me mad and sad:nono:....Oh and by the way thanks for your help on Morrowind.

Hi, Pedro...
There's a thread I just opened addressing modern FMs and their influence to the society:
(

Looks like people won't enjoy a Thief with modern setting... Neptune as you do, a space station and Mars as I do... I don't know. It's different.
I seriously think about creating a new thread in the Thief 4 forum about this...

You´re Right;), some people are too closed mind, they won´t evolute, but thank God there are many people out there that will embrace happly new kind of missions, opening a new threath for alternative missions is a good Idea , and you and i should make a mission together, i´m sure we could do a masterpiece of a modern mission:thumb:

If I could join in this conversation, my opinion about a modern Thief FM is that I appreciate all the work you both and others put into it.
I've played your missions, BG_Taffer and I really enjoyed them. Not for the story (Thief and space just seems a bit unlikely for me), but the architecture is really nice. With such missions I'm amazed what people can do with DromEd.
Same goes for you, cardia1. Your missons are not that modern as those of BG_Taffer, but also have some modern touches in it. I don't really agree with Garrett being on other planetes (as I said before, Thief and space doesn't fit in the same room for me storywise), but your missions are really beautiful and fun to play.

For me, space in Thief 4 wouldn't be fun. The missions of both of you are really fun to play, and beautiful with architecture. But a serious story of Garrett in space is for me not really something that fits in the Thief universe. I hope I made myself clear.
But please, you two keep making your style of missions, then I'll keep them playing.

Yes, we can make a joint modern FM some day :)
Let's see what other people will say about this :cheeky::cheeky::cheeky:
I'd like to see a base on Venus, however I'll have to include fog... and I use Windows Vista. No for for me.
But I have a better idea... what about the moons of Jupiter? Players will see the big planet in the background and a weird terrain...
I'm serious
PS: However, I don't see such mission in an official Thief...

choosing one of the 64 Juiter´s Moons sounds like a good idea, what about Callisto Moon? we could settle there a base , an industrial facility or a research lab, or anything else...;)

Hmmm... yes, a good idea :)
But If you ask me, I prefer Io. Io is very close to Jupiter, hot and dangerous, with lava!!!

Whatever you guys decide to do, I'm looking forward to seeing it! :thumb:
It sounds like you have some interesting ideas.

Great!
Just a side question - when are you going to publish the FMs on the Circle?
