Are you trying to play it in Thief 1, downwinder? It's for Thief 2. It crashes as you describe when played in T1/G

There isn't a direct route to get the lit candle to the portal levers, you need to think out of the box a bit.
Try to understand the portal first, it helps.
Can you get to the brazier to light the candle from the portal control levers without going through the wind vortex or water section?
If so you can to get back to the levers with the lit candle.
Once your back at the portal controls which room can you go to using the levers again?
If your going to go to that room what do you need to do before you go to that room?

Yeah I shot myself in the foot by brute-forcing the previous puzzle.
Finished now, and it was a lot of fun, great atmosphere, and the portal tech is amazing! :thumb:

Sagittal I've managed to use the monsters on a couple of occasions, they seem to move about and sometimes get close enough so if you do manage to mantle up onto them you can reach some of the ledges, but has anyone worked out how to make them move into the location you want them to be?
i didnt even consider mantling on top of them! i mantled onto the crystal lights and did a few awkward jumps from those. but despite that, i do know the answer: you can make the monsters move into the location you want by
attracting their attention so they run at you, and then dropping the hourglass to make them freeze again. but how you can then
pick up the hourglass again and escape with your life is left as an exercise for the reader :cheeky:

Just now realized that there's no indication in readme that this mission is for T2, and not Thief Gold. Nowhere. Quite funny. If I didn't read HavvicGames' post in contest general topic, I surely would lounch it with TG...

Use portal. You cannot jump over the bridge holding the stone so, with manipulating with a portal, put it on the bridge from the side near the start and then manipulate portal again to make that side of the bridge leading to the start of the mission. The candle should be played with portal too but even in a more crazier way.you can
drop the stone near the edge ...then jump back across and... then lean forward to get the stone

While his advice is technically accurate, I do not recommend following it. While this won't break anything, it will likely cause you more trouble down the line. Do yourself a favor and look for the intended approach instead of trying to cheese it.

OK, I'm still stuck on the candlepuzzle.
* I know how to light the candle.
* I know how the portals work.
* But, I can't drop the lit candle in the library and then pick it up later.
* ... I can't pass the intersection with the falling water without the candle turning off...
* ... and, related to that, I have no way to turn off the portal power or flip the portal switch while I'm in the library and away from the portal...
* So, I can't get to that brazier with a lit candle.
(For the record, I've already solved the rubble puzzle, as intended, and placed the talisman.)
What do I do?

NEVER MIND - figured it out. The portal power switch is not instantaneous in what it does.
