Tos, this is really awesome.
I'm curious, for fan mission purposes, about why certain OMs are more compatible than others... Has this been explained elsewhere? And also, what needs to be changed in the .gam file in order for a mission to be mp compatible? The reason I ask is that I'm wondering about fms with custom .gam files...
Sorry if this has already been explained before :)

Are you sure it was installed correctly?
My fault.

Thanks for the new release Tos!
Last night I had a minor issue while playing with a friend on Eavesdropping. When I picked a holy hammer (I believe it was a hammer) in one of the underground crypts, i couldn't throw it away! I mean, i was hitting 'throw' and 'drop' buttons like a madman, but the hammer just glued to Garrett's hands and stayed with me. It took me a couple of minutes to get rid of the junk. I really have no idea what could've caused such a strange bug.

Quick opinion poll on displaying the automap as an in-game overlay: would the loss of the ability to manually change pages on the map be a major issue for most people? (
http://s149432842.onlinehome.us/thief/mapoverlay.jpg) Here's what the overlay currently looks like.
Right now, it will only display the page for the area you're currently in and update in real time as you move (much like System Shock 2's map). I could set it up so that displaying the automap enters the new "mouse mode" that I added for the book overlay and clicking on the map cycles through the pages, but this would disable the movement keys and freelook, so you'd be unable to run around with the map open as you can now.
Players also won't be able to write notes on the map overlay as you can on the old map, but to be honest I didn't even
know this feature existed until I started digging around in the automap rendering code, so I imagine this won't be missed by many.

I think I've had this happen before, but I wasn't able to figure out what the problem was. Were you hosting the game this happened in, or playing as a client?

Hmm, that's a really tough decision. I think if you had to choose between functionality and simple viewing, viewing is more important for an overlay. So, as long as the regular old method of hitting "m" on my keyboard works for all the other stuff I need to do, then I'm fine with that. It seems that the overlay would just be a quick look to see where you are at, and if you need to do anything else you can simply hit m on your keyboard. My 2 cents.

Actually, that's not a bad idea imo. It would be like doom 3, where when you are looking at your PDA, it does not pause the game and adds some realism to the game. So, all this would mean for the player is that they would need to be careful where they stop for a bit to read the map. But I guess it's up to the other taffers who vote. Are you going to just surmise our responses from here, or do you have an actual poll system in mind?

Just to clarify: the map overlay is what's displayed when you hit the "m" key (or whatever you've bound the map key to) in a multiplayer game now. Singleplayer games are unaffected of course, and will use the old map. You can still get to the old map by going through the objectives screen or the menu (neither of which have been modified yet), but this won't work for long.
Not using mouse mode for the automap will definitely result in some loss of functionality, but on the other hand it would allow players to move around with the map open (something that could not be done before, obviously). I'm not really sure which is the better option, so I decided to ask for opinions.

Based on this information, I changed my thoughts on the matter, if anyone cares to know. I proposed a third option through private chat:
Quote:
: hey i just had an idea
: though i don't know if this would work
: what if you were able to implement both options? WITH mouse, and without mouse? and then the player can just choose which to use
deleted my messenger name, that's why there is nothing in front of the ":"
I think by doing it at least by .ini option, as Tos mentioned in chat, that folks can chose which they would rather have and then you could always go back and change it if you don't like what you've done.
