I realise this could simply be a result of there not being any servers right now, but the global server just comes up as empty for me. Has this not been fully implemented yet or am I missing something?
(I read somewhere about having to open some ports as well as forwarding them, but I don't know how you're supposed to do this and just hoped telling my firewall not to block thief2.exe would be enough)

Usually when I check, there are no servers either. It's normal. This reminds me, are we now able to join games in between missions?

There probably just aren't any servers. I usually only see one or two online when I glance over at the global server app. You shouldn't need to forward any ports for the global to work properly -- just to host games.

Gah, I think I forgot to fix that in build 210. Which reminds me, I still haven't had time to check on davidsung's report of more than 3 players not working properly in 210. I don't suppose anyone else has tried this in the mean time?

We had this issue a couple of days ago. Beforehand it had worked fine for three but the fourth made everyone freeze in the synching/loading screen. On occasion three were able to start when one dropped out.

I thought it might be that. Looks like dropping into any game going could be a little difficult. :erg:
I'd rather not host one since if I have to leave at a moments notice everyone gets disconnected.
Still impressed that it exists at all though! :thumb:
I'm going to co-op something, one way or another. :ebil:

Just tried hosting a game, and while it did appear in the global server, my ping and player count were both just question marks. Left it for a while to give it time to connect and no luck. Tried using port 7777 instead, as someone suggested, and still no luck. May have to take a look at my firewall settings, but I'd rather not open anything unless I really need to.

"?" mark sounds like a symptom of firewall blockage. You only need to forward 7777. (or forward the default and use the default, which is 5198 I think.)

EDIT: I spoke too soon. I don't know what was different about the one working server I saw, but even after making exceptions to programs and ports in windows firewall my server is still all question marks. :(
Still, it looks like I can connect to other peoples, if I can find one that isn't closed.

You're using windows firewall?:eww: I believe I read somewhere that windows firewall doesn't block outgoing requests from your computer, only incoming. Windows firewall is quite insecure/unreliable.
Hmm, that's weird. So you're saying your own server shows as ??? but other people's don't?
neon flame on 7/5/2009 at 09:29
Well, there were two other servers on, both called Thief 2 server.
The thing is, one of them had the ping as ??? and the other had numbers. So I can see some servers but not others. I think that might be a problem on the servers end though, since I'm pretty sure you only have to open ports if you want to host a game.
I've also realised that I'm using a router, so I probably need a different port to 5198. I just don't know which one
