That article is way exaggerating its incompleteness and the difficulty of getting it running. Actually it is very easy for a layman to get it running, no coding experience needed, and for most levels it doesn't crash and burn at all and plays great; only some levels have trouble. We need to make that point in the comments so people aren't turned off of it!

After almost 2 years of trying, i've still not seen a single server in the server browser.
Are there / were there ever any hosts online ????
There are 1-2 servers, for example I start almost every evening one (at 20.00, GMT+1). The worst thing that the player who want to play on-line, cannot join into a running server. It would be nice to fix this problem, for example with a "queue-solution": when the server are open between the maps, the queued-player automatically joining into the game. Or join as a spectator until the map ends... I don't know, sadly I haven't coding knowledge. But this multiplayer is the BIGGEST THING in the Thief world in the last years. Bigger, than the Dark mod! (to me)

Of course, but you have to take the initiative and set up a match. (Which I have done with some people before.) There's never been dedicated servers. In order to have one, you'd basically have to keep thief running all the time, and someone would have to "man" the server since there's no server software separate from the patch for thief 2. There's a sticky regarding connecting with other players if you haven't seen it.

There are many-many great FM mission for Thief2 which wait for our co-op game :). The only problem is that some mission doesn't let the pre-buying-item-and-weapon-procedure and the player start the missions without any weapons. During the gameplay he must pickup the blackjack and the sword, but it paralell means that only 1 client can pickup the blackjack or sword. It would be good to use a "weaponstay" option for these 2 weapons only ---> and this can result that every clients have blackjack.
Sorry for my bad english

I thought by default every person would already have a blackjack and sword? Unless of course the mission itself does not have them, in which case I don't know how Tos could add them. I think that'd be up to the designer to update the FM for multiplayer, or the player could do it himself/herself.
I could be wrong though.

Yes that was his point, as I understood it. He's talking about FMs where you must find your equipment in-game.
While it might be good if you could spawn weapons to deal with situations like this, my feeling is it's actually not a bad thing considering you're playing coop after all. These kinds of FMs add the extra flavor that you really have to cooperate with your partner(s); you have to negotiate who gets the BJ, who gets the sword, and then actually cooperate with different players having different advantages/liabilities to get the right tool for the job.

...or make a weapon-drop function (as the inventory-drop)

Just type "/s blackjack" or "/s sword" into the chat and press enter. I don't think there's a need for this feature. Edit: The "Cheat"-checkbox has to be checked, too.

Just a detail, Tos: the Tabstops for the Multiplayer Host-window are set random. If I am using the tab-key on my keyboard the focus is jumping around.
