I use Norton, windows 7 and have never had a problem. I think what your seeing is that the file is untrusted because its so new and unknown. You can easily still install by telling Norton its trusted. If you check the tfix posts you will see my post where it happened to me.
The next time it happens just choose install anyway or actions to pop a menu to okay it.;)
Yeah, but it does so too often on harmless files. And I'm not sure on its ability to find genuine threats. Never looked back when I uninstalled SEP a couple of years ago.

Ahh, cool... thanks everyone! Good to know. I've never really had a problem with Norton, that I've noticed. My computer seems to run pretty quick, and I make it scan at times when it won't interrupt me. I just renewed Norton a week or two ago, so I'll re-evaluate after the renewal year is up :) Never heard of Malwarebytes, but will check it out. Thanks again! :thumb: I need me some Thief 2. Having withdrawls...
EDIT: Okay, got it patched up and the higher resolutions working. Awesome! The cinematic movies stopped working upon patching, though... so I'll need to figure that one out a bit later when I have some time to troubleshoot.
I haven't tried Tafferpatcher yet (only TFix for Thief Gold), but isn't it supposed to fix the cutscene issue? If not, then you'll have to
do it manually by checking this guide: (

I thought so... either that and/or the New Dark patch it helps apply. Thanks for the link. I tried Solutions 2 thru 5 (which have worked in years past for me) and it didn't fix the movie playing issue this time, despite the proclaimed successes when running regsvr32.exe and the .bat (RegIndeo batch) file :(
I've struggled with this in years past and eventually got them to work, so I'll just keep tinkering with some things. I'm sure to eventually stumble upon the right combination of tweaks (and "Run As Administrator" settings) to perform. Whatever solution I found years ago, I think I wrote down and stored in a Notepad doc in my Thief 2 directory that got wiped out 6 months ago :( I had some other T2 customization stuff tucked away in that directory, too... so I'm bummed I lost it. If all else fails, I could try to install the game from discs again, I suppose, and use that installation rather than Steam's.
I'm surprised Steam doesn't seem to educate people on how to get the game running better (higher resolutions, widescreen, etc.)... or that the cinematics might not play without some tweaking. Must leave a lot of new players more quickly in a state of "WTF? Damn, I hate old games..." hehe
EDIT: They're working now! Maybe my computer needed to think about having them work before actually working, because I didn't do anything since I posted except wait an hour or so before playing :)

How do you install Thief2 these days? I haven't installed it in ages. Last time I remember, there was a procedure to install t2 with screen wide. How should I approach it, in order to have New Dark? Any tips?

Tafferpatcher is recommended if you're starting from scratch.
