T2: So, fog is broken again. *sigh* - by EvaUnit02

Rose Cottage does not have fog. I'm about to load up my FM Dance With the Dead, which has dense fog, and see if it's fixed. I also played the C5 mission Plagiarism the other day, and it has fog (I know because it was there until I read a book), so I'll check it out too. I'm very hopeful this will work, and also that you can fix the black screen issue in missions without fog.
Edit: Bloody hell, it works like a charm! DwtD and Plagiarism both work great! I then loaded up Eastwater Bank (no fog) and also have a black screen unless I turn off the fog fix in the INI file. SiO2 if you can fix this so unfogged missions work with the fix enabled, you'll be my new best friend! THANKS!

Also, I must add that Conspiracies in the Dark Works well, and I never knew it needed fog until just recently.
Might I add: I'm using an old Dell Dimension 4500S, the Pizza-Box variant of an old budget computer from the early 2000's. Erm, I'm not really sure what its Graphics chip is.
But I can say already: If you have DX9, this fix will work just fine. Just fix the kinks in it and I'll give you my firstborn. :cheeky:

I should post my PC specs:
Dell Inspiron 530s, Core2Duo E7200 @2.53GHz, 4GB RAM
Vista 64bit SP1, DX10
ATI Radeon HD4650 running 8.671.0.0 (4 Nov 09)
(
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128546) Once I went to the 4650, I got fog back until I went to the menu or read a book, then I lost it. Now it stays! THANK YOU SiO2!

Unfortunately, I no longer can run Thief 2 with this version of ddfix.dll.
It says:
You seem to be trying to use ddfix 1.3.11 or newer with an exe patched to use 1.3.10 or older.
Please use the ddfixGUI to remove the patch, or remove the hexedit by hand.I'm using Thief 2 1.18, with ddfix 1.3.11 the game runs fine (without fog pf course)
I get this nasty error as well. Any ideas on that, as obviously some people get it working.

You have to do this:

1. For some reason, as I've stated above, I can't just replace the old ddfix.dll with the new one and run Thief 2, it gives me an error message. I managed to solve it by renaming the new ddfix.dll to ddfin.dll and make the appropriate change to thief2.exe with the help of the hex editor. I have to try to reinstall Thief 2 from scratch and use the latest ddfix version from the get go;
It's also working with my Radeon HD3850 on Windows 7 32-bit :D

Thanks PsymH, but there is no indication to what exactly one must do with the hex editor, so I can't get it working.
Anyway a lot of applause to Sio2 for his hard work:thumb::joke:

Dan, you have to hex edit the .exe to change the name from ddfix.dll to ddfin.dll (or whatever different name you used for the file). Note that you must leave ddfix.ini with the original name (I made that mistake at first). Probably this additional step won't be necessary with the eventual final version of the fix.

Thank you Yandros! I was not exactly sure how to do that but I managed and it works like a charm. Now I can explore fog missions without the one-time exit issue.
Again thanks Sio2, for your research and coding. I have the same black screen issues like the others, but thats not a ig deal for me. I know the bugs will be fixed in time. Keep it going:thumb:

I think SiO2 should start getting donations. I mean he deserves it!
