Vista has a "Windows XP Service Pack 2" compatibility mode, which looks needed for the videos to play.
BTW, tried the recently released Calalyst 9.3, still perfect fog :)

I have to run Thief.exe as admin to see movies. I've also tried (I think) running in XPSP2 comp mode and no fog. Biker has said it's something to do with DirectX in Vista.

This only needed with some versions of thief as mine works fine native in vista.

Didnt work using the ati tool, and the option didnt exist for rivatuner or nvhardpage..
Im gonna trawl though here - (
http://downloads.guru3d.com/) and see if any of the nvidia tools in there will allow me to tweak the fog settings..
Biker, I take it nothing came of your trawling? I want to buy a video card soon and if there's a chance I can buy one that will actually make fog work, I'll do it.

Good lord, have you guys completely forgotten laptop users? This isn't no alienware I'm using: It's a crappy lappy from dell. The crappy intel 965 graphics chip in this puppy is lucky enough power doom 3, yippy... but thief 2 fog, nope... I'm not that lucky, sunny. (How many more -ee words can I state?) :p

I mean, I'm desperate enough to install directx 8 or 7 (whatever version thief 2 uses). Would that help any?

It's a fact that laptops are usually shitty platforms for gaming. No compassion is owed, especially when running integrated Intel trash. Intel video solutions are usually officially unsupported by most publishers for a reason you know.

Albert you don't need to re-install older versions of DirectX, in fact I would actively discourage it.
As Ive said to other people playing thief on intel gfx chipsets:- Thief will run natively/vanilla on that gfx chipset (I have 2 laptops) - so NO need for DDfix. The only fix's you might require depending on your hardware config are the 'dual core patch' and the 'widescreen patch'. Additionally if your running Vista, FOG will NOT work...!!!

So on Vista, no way to force fog?
