Additionally if your running Vista, FOG will NOT work...!!!

So on Vista, no way to force fog?

Not for everyone...

I own a Vista 32 running T2 in Windows XP compatibility mode.
I had the exact probem with fog (on ATI Mobilty X1900) either with or without DDfix.
But, out of curiosity I just upgraded to the latest Catalyst 9.2, and I discovered that the fog now stays all the time :)

I indeed use AtiTrayTools to manage the Video settings, and I've not installed CCC at all.
In the advanced D3D tweaks, I've enabled everything EXCEPT:
- W FOG enable
- Discrete fog enable
- Export W buffer
AtiTrayTool is the latest beta 1.6.9.1382 ((

I tested with the FM Stronghold
Hope it helps

My system is vista business 64-bit and I have a Radeon x1600 Pro. I have installed 9.2 catalyst and the recent version of ATI Tray Tools and... Wow... unbelieviable, but it works for me, too! :D A side note: Like Scrooge I haven't installed CCC.
Thanks again for the info Scrooge! :)

Well, I have an nVidia. Which, ordinarily, is a good thing...
bikerdude on 21/5/2009 at 13:14
I have stumbled upon a fix for fog when I had been looking into the issue of running nVidia and ATi cards in the same PC under vista...so I could run thief on the ATi card for fog...
Someone has pointed out it is possible to install Xp gfx drivers under vista and as fog work under Xp using the same hardware maybe using the xp driver would fix the fog issue... which would negate the need for two different gfx cards as mentioned above...

What? installing xp drivers onto vista, or combining the use of ATI and Nvidia cards onto vista?

Well, I've procured a relatives old inspiron 1525... dunno if that'll support fog (which yes, fog doesn't work on this laptop either), but it has windows xp, which is a plus, I'm guessing.

and I assume as its 'old' it will have an intel gfx card - which as i have pointed out countless times, supports vanilla thief 1/2, no need for ddfix, ws patch etc.

Too bad, but after buying a new Radeon HD 3850 the problem with menu fog disappearing has re-appeared. No matter, which version from Catalyst driver or ATI Tray Tools is installed
@Bikerdude:
Not sure, if I understood you correctly, but have you tried it, installing a XP driver to get fog on Vista?
PsymH on 9/6/2009 at 18:34
Tried it myself and... ta da... the fog problem is gone... again :p
