I've tried installing ATT but the low-level driver can't be started in Vista because it's unsigned. I may try installing a signed XP driver and see if it works. PsymH, is that in fact what you did to get it working permanently?
Yes, the fog works without any problems, but the XP driver causes other issues. The disabled aero effects are not so bad, but no graphics tool like CCC or ATT will longer work, so I cannot set any graphics settings or the desktop colours...

Okay, I tried a similar experiment and installed the XP driver under Win7 RC. Like in Vista64 the fog works perfectly, but aero and other functions still not works. Anyway, I can change the colours in ATT, but it seams that changing 3D settings like AA, AF or vsync has no effects.

Can you point me to exactly which XP driver version you're using so I can be sure to compare apples with apples if I give it a go?

Catalyst 9.4, because newer versions haves problems with Thief in Win XP and I think with this also in Vista/Win7.

I wonder if it would be more productive to look at what the Thief code is calling to the DirectX APIs that causes fog to exist the first time it goes into 'game rendering' mode but not in subsequent times. There must be a way to check what DirectX functions it is calling...

The 9.9 Catalyst drivers seem to work perfectly for me on Windows 7, the fog looks perfect, everything works flawlessly, scouting orb, etc.

What card do you have, falco?
falco216 on 27/9/2009 at 14:04
I have the 4850.

I just upgraded to 9.9 (Vista64 with a 4650), but still have the same problem: fog on first load and then I lose it if I go to menu or book mode. Can you post your CCC or ATT settings?
