Thanks for the prompt feedback. Yes, I'm playing the v3 ("platinum") version.
Is this the hall
with the 2 statues holding the huge golden keys? If it is, how do you get up there? You will notice the HUUUGHHHE cathedral main-hall as soon as you get there. Promised.
It sounds like you did not find the entrance to that, yet.
IIRC, check the hall with 6 statues carefully.
There are 2 switches.
One behind a bush.
Another one on the top of the pedestral with a statue.

And I did notice it... as soon as
I found that tiny switch on the window frame. All objective completed by now, with huge thanks for the proper nudge :D:thumb:

In the "platinum" (v3) version I found
only one switch in the NW corner of that room, on the R wall behind the bush/statue. It opens the basement door. Where is the second one?

I've repeatedly
scoured every square millimeter of both middle statue pedestals and their surroundings, from their bottom to the statue heads - and I positively cannot find the tiniest switch on or around either of them:o. Perhaps my "Platinum Edition" copy is defective...

its the
statue between the chair and table,....and the top left door....if you stand near the back wall, next to the door side and frob around at head height you should get it to move...I could not see the lever at all...it was only by luck that I found it,as you have to really be in the right position to get it.

it's not a switch, it's a key! I'm just looking for a place - a door? a chest? - to use it, and I'll let you know ASAP

it cant be
a KEY as you can keep switching it open and closed....So we must have different versions:
in my copy it's definitely a key (called "key"), showing up nicely when frobbing that pedestal, and it goes into the inventory. Check there: how many keys do you see? I used to have only one, but now I have two. What we have in common: neither your switch nor my key appears to open anything...
