Yesterday, after not having played T3 for a while decided to activate it and met with a most unpleasant suprise. While loading, it suddenly stopped and the MS error msg popped up instead saying 'a serious error was encountered and must shut down the application, sorry for the inconvenience'.
This is the first time that has ever happened to me with T3. It will not load anymore and I am at an utter loss as to what to do next.
I am running XP Pro with an AMD Athlon 64 and 1GB of RAM and I have never had any problem with loading T3 before this suprise came to me.
Has this ever happened to anyone else and if so, how was it fixed or how did you handle it?
Thanks for any ideas/guidance

It's most likely related to something you changed/added to your pc since it first worked, but I don't think that the Thief Fan Mission forum is the right place to ask. :)
btw don't send us any more flood water. We have enough already. :cheeky:

Have you tried a reinstall in the case that it might be a corrupted file?

The reason I asked about this problem on an FM forum is that one must have the original main game already installed and working to be able to play any T3 FM's and if the main game suddenly won't work, neither will any FM for that game. I therefore thought the question appropriate for this forum.
Changes: I exchanged one type of trackball which didn't work very well for another that did but I've never used the new one with T3.
Uninstall and reinstall: I've looked into that and I am unable to find any way to do that. The uninstall program in XP Pro apparently doesn't work for T:DS for whatever reason.
Has anyone else run into this problem and if so, how did you handle it or were you able to handle it?

Why not just reinstall without the uninstall first? Only, make sure you install it into the same directory.

TDS won't install until you clean up the registry. The installation program will ask you to uninstall it first and then show you the same error.
Chek up these registry entries:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ion Storm\Thief - Deadly Shadows
If ION_ROOT parameter has incorrect path, the game won't run. Correct it if needed.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Thief - Deadly Shadows
If UninstallString just has the wrong path, you can correct it and start uninstall program again.
If that don't help, delete this entries and install TDS again (you can delete previous Thief installation manually or just install into the same folder)
AND… BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE TAFFING WITH IT!!!

Ah, thanks. I'll have to remember this in case I have to reinstall.:thumb:

'Tis true about the registry and TDS, but that only applies to the release version of the EXE, not the dev version. Dev version can execute flawlessly with registry issues, but u can't load any saves.
