You have a good point there, jt. Let's talk about it.

A lot of the discussions center around making the next Thief like other games already on the market, and that boils my blood.
I want to beat back the turgid wall of mediocrity.

Like most walls, though, trying to beat it back would only result in bloodying your fists, until irresistible forward momentum causes it to grind you into its massive bulk, and all that will be left of you is just another pair of arms and legs, protruding aslant and askew, quivering brokenly from within its turgid, meaty innards.

http://www.thief-thecircle.com/images/forum/goldstar.pngGold stars for using one of my favorite words, one which I only typically see used in trashy romance novels (otherwise known as women's porn). New Horizon gets 2 stars for using it first, and Sulphur gets one for the most revolting mental imagery inspired by use of it. (I fervently hope I don't have any turgid innards, meaty or otherwise. That sounds painful!). :p
My pick is definitely E.
I think it is in the nature of a group of hardcore fans to speculate about any and all possiblities for future releases. I think most of us are hoping for a game that is good enough to merit continuation of the series. My thoughts had been running toward the possilbility of expansion (assuming the new game will be good enough to support it) as I was packing my old games. Hexen II's Portal of Praevus Mission Pack and Redneck Rampage's Suckin' Grits on Route 66 were both expansions I enjoyed. Portal of Praevus used a new character, similar to Zaya in T2X, and Route 66 was just the same ol' redneck Leonard getting into more trouble. The possibilities for expansions are endless, and I hope that T4 is good & successful enough to merit expansion. I would rather see a small expansion with a few high quality missions than a larger second rate collection.
This community has proven how much an editor can do to extend the life of a game. Thief fans have enormous stores of ideas and talents that a development team could never match. I would like to see what the developers would create, but an editor is so much more useful to a community like this one. The quality and variety of FMs speaks for itself.
I would prefer both, but, if I could only pick one, I'd pick the editor.

Just sounds like another fan that really wants to be a game designer...

Jesus H stavros, I can almost feel the sheer mass of hopes and dreams being piled on this game already. This is going to be a fucking internet train-wreck when it turns out to be splinter cell again.

I just wanted to know what people here thought of this. Personally I think its ridiculous to start talking expansion discs for a game that isn't even out for a variety of reasons. I think people are either getting bored or inpatient for info.
Expansion disks are kind of out of fashion nowadays, but DLC is a serious business. Huge money is involved, and DLC can drive sales of the original release, too. Thinking of possible DLC long in advance is not unheard of. It would not be surprising at all if the developer was already working on it, so that they could release it in parallel with the game proper or a few weeks afterwards.
A thread like that does make some sense, because DLC is generally a good way to introduce something that could be fun do play with, but doesn't quite fit the game proper, or your business plan. For instance, if I decided that my "Thief 4" is going to be "Splinter Cell meets Assassin's Creed", I might consider returning to "classic" gameplay in a dowloadable mission pack. Or, if I decided my "Thief 4" needs to feature a new protagonist, I might release DLC featuring Garrett.
Whether or not it makes sense to read and post on a "product anticipation" forum of any kind is a different matter. :)

Woo hoo! I got a star! This is the first time I've been appreciated for saying something revolting. Maybe I've got a future in this thing. ;) Thanks, pav! <3

Duh!
We've got an entire sub-forum for speculative talk about a non-existent game we know precious little about. Any aspect discussed comes from boredom, impatience, anticipation, creative exercise, blah blah blah.
We could discuss boxart, game-world palette, hairstyles, mechanics, ropes, quickloads and save slots, fonts, etc., and it's all just idling and an attempt to influence the devs and each other, fruitlessly.
What else are we supposed to do with a Thief 4 anticipation forum? Print it out and wipe our bums?
I like it much better when you join in the fun and actually type something people are interested in reading even if they disagree. A little more entertainment value, education value, and less hypocrisy and derision. Of course, you can do what you want, but opinions have consequences, right taffers?

I've never had that problem.
