Thief 2014 objects in FMs?
What do you think about this?

Will require a fair bit of model creating, we have already created a few " inspired by" models in the Darkmod.

I also think it's better to recreate them instead of a straight conversion. It's fully legal so we won't have to worry about Square Enix sending helicopter gunships after us.

The polycount needs reducing anyway. After that, good luck proving the model was ever pinched.

Don't use the same texture too. Keep everything associated with the model as "inspired by" and you should be OK. If you do any "taken from" you can get in trouble.

Of course it would be used other or modified textures.
I think that reducing the polygons on the model - quite a serious argument in favor of the fact that the model is re-done and not stolen. To better guarantee can add a couple of unique details if possible. But maybe it's a pointless idea and easier to create a new model.

Considering any model exported out of T4 will be in tris, reducing polygons with any amount of control would be a difficult endeavor. It'd be easier to take the model, throw it into a background layer in your favorite 3D editor, and spend half an hour running some retopology tools over it.
Same thing with the textures. They're going to be using the usual diffuse/normal/specular maps that all modern engines use, which don't translate well to engines like Dark. Yeah, you can get some shadow and highlighting information out of spec and normalmaps by playing with your color channels, but the results will never be quite as good as one built from scratch for Dark.
I think Bikerdude and RSoul said it best. It's better to use the T4 models as inspiration, or at most, a shape to conform your own geometry around, than it is trying to lift a model wholesale, and hoping it looks okay. The legal repercussions are only half the reason. The other, more important reason is you'll end up with a model better suited for Thief 1 & 2 than you otherwise would.
