I've considered getting a tablet for a while, it seems like the perfect thing when I'm all cozy in bed and just wanna check my TTLG, shitcomment someone's facebook status, and maybe watch some youtube videos. I got the Amazon Fire super cheap on Black Friday sales and... absolutely hate it.
* For the love of god I can't type on this thing. I feel like the button triggers are off and I constantly keep misspelling words. I hoped it'd be better on horizontal view (bigger, more like a traditional keyboard) but actually leads to even more fuckups and somehow randomly switching to the app selection view every few words. Wtf?
* The size and weight fall in the awkwardly useless category. Too heavy to comfortably hold up for a long time, and if I put it further away I might just be using my Android phone up close. I also dont wanna put it on my lap and be straining my neck looking down. Lying down on my stomach to use it works better but it makes typing even more hellish.
* Blurry screen, especially when looking at small text. Makes reading hard unless I zoom out a lot.
And few things that are exclusively Amazon's fault:
* Can't install SWYPE keyboard. Whyyy??
* No Playstore and Google integration. I got Chrome installed via a custom APK but it was outdated and froze on me several times. Great. Can't sync with all my bookmarks.
* The default browser, Silk, is basically a shittier version of Chrome. I hate how the webpages load by chunks, so your view area will keep jumping up and down until everything loads.
* I downloaded an MP3 file from a website, and clicking it in my download list does nothing. Do I seriously need to install another media player, wtf?
* ADs on the lock screen. Really? I already paid for the fucking thing.
My other friend wants it so I'm happily re-selling it, thank god. But given the raving reviews, I thought maybe I'm doing it wrong? I know half the peeves would be gone if I got a non-Amazon one, but the first few points still make me dubious. TTLGeek force, Advise!

The Amazon Fire isn't the tablet you need, but it is the tablet you deserve.

It sounds like you'd be better off with a "real" Android tablet, rather than a Kindle.
I can't give much more advice in terms of tablets, but I can ask: what can a tablet do that a really good 5" smartphone can't?
A smartphone can do all of the things that you mentioned above, though its small screen makes watching YouTube videos a little awkward

Kind of like asking what a 13" TV can't do that a 60" TV can. The answer, of course, being that it can't be a 60" TV.

Nameless, nothing but I hoped the bigger screen would make reading and typing easier, but I'm finding that not the case due to its bulkiness and shit-tastic keyboard.

An onscreen keyboard you can actually use while still having something visible on your screen is another advantage of tablets over smartphones. Same with reading (comic)books. While some of the apps for that work well on a smartphone, you'll get a lot more on screen at the same time on a tablet. Some games also work better on a tablet than a phone simply due to the size difference, while others work better on a phone for the same reason.

It sounds like you need a computer.
...though I could be wrong.

I've tried a bunch of tablets and I owned a Samsung galaxy tab 7 once, but I just don't like them. Except for iPads and I have no idea why. I'm not an Apple fanatic - I use PC and my phones are android, but the iPad just has an ease of use which I haven't found in another device, mostly in terms of screen responsiveness. The downside of course being the price tag, but if you aren't doing anything too sophisticated - could be that you could find an older model for not too expensive on eBay.
