That's actually true of a lot of old cities - under many older European cities in particular there really are networks of caves, remains of old cellars that join together, mineshafts... In several places they were used as bomb shelters during WW2, and in a few places they are still used for utility supplies.
Yes, Here in Maastricht it's called: KAZEMATTEN. A lot of old houses in the centre of the city have a tunnel in their cellars leading to these caves. They used it during war times. These caves are very, very old.
:erm: BTW: What does the word TROPE mean exactly?
I tried to look it up in my dictionary, but it only said: as a figure of speech ....??? of what??
I got the meaning of the thread, so I could put in my reply, but I would like to now what this word means.
I can check the internet, but I'm too busy Thieving right now :ebil:

Literary Trope (pretty close to what Thief is): a common theme used in storytelling
I think we have altered it somewhat, so that a taffer trope means "a common theme or detail seen/heard/experienced in Thief FMs"

The suspiciously-unlit sconce is always a switch.
It is a federal offense to assemble a collection of three or more bookcases without including at least one volume which opens a secret passageway.

Folks have a penchant for placing heavy, bulky hammers in locked wooden chests.

- Water arrows in ponds, rivers, wells, water coolers, sinks, toilets.
I think seeing the effervescence of a gas arrow in a toilet might be off-putting... but enough that we (as players) wouldn't try to grab it?
never ;)an addition to the commonly used phrases list: "time for a little light reading" upon entering a library.
every once in a while, someone will use a ton of Garrett phrases from early OMs, including basic gameplay tips. that always throws me off.

Chunks of gold or silver resting around nobles gardens or streets that no poor citizen ever finds but Garrett ,as if underpayed people and guards do not bother to actually examine their environment
and gold coins or keys inside toilet holes that poor Garrett has to pick :nono: Exactly where do these people keep their valuables ,into their underwear?
