As far as trying to play v1.08 "standalone" has anyone tried making the darkmod folder a sub-folder inside the old Doom 3 demo?
That should at lease resolve the light issues though there will still likely be other problems.

Congratulations with the new release, people!

So, why exactly does the newly released "BFG Edition" not work with the The Dark Mod, anyway? Kinda seems like id dropped the ball there, not just for TDM, but for all Doom 3 mods.

As I understand it, it's a port of a version made for consoles, hence mod support wasn't part of the package.

Nah, quite a bit more to it than that. It's not exactly a console port, it's just that they unified the engine for all builds. They also updated the renderer with some idtech5 technology, the game now uses some baked shadows for performance...I think they have limited dynamic shadows, but pretty sure you can still have them.
They now pack all of the resource files in a binary format for faster loading times.
They also have some multi-core threading going on I believe.
Once the source code for BFG is released, it will be interesting to see what can be backported into our version of Doom 3.

The new version is great. What I like the most:
1. The new sounds. Especially the new Haunt sounds are scary as hell. Great Job!
2. The light looks much better.
3. No more Problems with my ATI graphic card.
4. I can finally play The Chalice of Kings.
I have one suggestion: I often have to look up for a translation of certain english words. Unfortunately I can´t use Alt-Tab while playing TDM. TDM still runs in front of my other runing programs. Any chance to change this?

One possibility is running through Steam. If you have Steam installed just 'add a non-steam game' and choose the 'theDarkmod.exe'
Now you can alt-tab and use all the steam functions : ie- browser. Unfortunately for a browser it sucks, you can type in google and search... but you can't bookmark. :(
Come on Valve!
Or you can run windowed to full desktop size. Which I don't like, I run a lower res in most games to get better performance. I also don't know how to set it to borderless, or if that can be done. And the borders kill me.

It can be done with a little trick, but some Missions won't work. See post from Oct 25 2012 at (

You can run TDM in a window.
