LOL i had misunderstood the light the room part, so i lit all the torches and candles in the basement. So when the guards came looking for me, it was like day time :eek:

In the beginning, after I "put out" the flaming haunt in the bookstore I pick the lock to the door next to the entrence door. When I go to open the door the game crashes and the pop-up window "Doom 3 has stopped working, windows is gathering information to the problem" opens and then I have to restart the computer. This has happened twice. Any ideas? :confused:

Are you using multiple quicksaves?
I know that some folks have experienced problems where physics bugs crept in to a quicksave then each successive save became worse. You could try going back a couple of quicksaves and see if the problem grows from there.
Also:
Try disabling save-game compression in your DoomConfig.cfg
seta tdm_savegame_compress "0"

What are you supposed to do right at the start?
I did exactly as said in the briefing, went first to get my payment, but suddenly there's this guy going berserk at you. I can't get out, because both doors are unfrobbable and I don't have anything to kill it with (playing on Expert). Please don't say I'm supposed to kill that thing with a sword. I just can't do it, because I can't even land three hits. I'm just not that good a fighter, and if it came to learning to become one, I'd rather play Mount & Blade.
