Finished it. I really liked this FM. Wonderful atmosphere, and the gameplay was spot on (still twitching after the agony of the Kings thingy FM for T2). Well done Fidcal & Baddcog - you are stars - keep em coming! TDM is coming of age and is the platform of choice for thief currently.

Am stumped on one item. I have Sam all squared away and in the place where he is supposed to end up. Objective is checked off. But I still have an Objective to find out how he died. I thought I knew how he died from a couple of readables. I know he was run through with a sword, used the Heart on himself and ran off. Ended up in that pit under the block in the interrogation room where he died. Is there more than that? If so I need a nudge as I am blindly stumbling around. I hope there is something else otherwise I may have done things out of order and broke something.
Other than the above all I have to do is destroy the Heart and I pretty Well have that figured out. Yes, pun intended! ;)
Meanwhile am going to go back and jump in the Pit again just in case. Check back in a bit.

Never mind on the above. When I jumped back down in that place where I had found Sam before the Objective on how he died instantly checked off. So I must have done something a bit out of order. As I had said above I already had Sam in that Sanctified place.
My thanks for the fine mission. Am off hunting secrets now before I end this one. I have 8 so far.

There seems to be a bug where 'new' objectives started completed so I had to manually force them to be UNchecked. Infortunately that meant if you did them before they became visible then they UNchecked. Good idea to go back and try it again. Not your fault. The same happens eg, if you get something too early then you have to drop it and pick it up again.

wow, finally finished! (nothing more frustrating than being close to the end and not having time to play!)
I don't know how long it took me, but I had a great time playing - even when I was frustrated and coming here for help, I couldn't wait to get back in. I found 10 secrets, including the dagger! good thing I kept a tally, since DM doesn't show a total in Statistics (full list (

I found a couple of ways to bypass the
trap Sam is in:
1)
drop a crate down and stand on that, then lean over to grab the loot and note. might even be able to pick Sam up. it isn't a pressure-sensitive floor, DM activates the trap if the player touches it.2)
stack the crates so that the stone hits them when lowered. you can grab the loot and crawl out, but not with Sam.I have a couple of questions more related to the update than this FM, but since this is the first time I've experienced them, I'll ask here:
1) when I hit Esc it sometimes takes me to the objectives screen, and sometimes to the menu. is there something I'm doing differently (holding shift, from running?), or does it just not work all the time?
2) while playing my text went all tiny (labels only, on weapons and items) - I can't read a damn thing, how do I fix that?

Good. Every time someone finishes it I count it as a personal success! :thumb: Means I must be doing something right! BTW the secrets tally is added into the console (better than nothing.) It does scroll up if there are other events but at least you can see it and even condump console.txt will save the console text to a file in the game folder.

I think it just takes you to the last screen you were at doesn't it? BTW do you know you can view the objectives in-game now in real time?

It's all this cold weather we've been having! :cheeky: Actually this has been reported somewhere else, maybe in the darkmod forums. I don't recall if a fix has been found though.

Ok, mostly working blind since I can't read like 2/3rds of the "readables" due to that half-assed script font... (enough to make you long for original thief where everything was the same font no matter who wrote it)...
But still opened every door except the pump room and the two cell-type areas... I'm assuming you get the heart after the pump room?
Kinda lost because not only does it have the art *** 'poetic' gibberish - it's in a gibberish font to boot... and **** it's long winded while saying nothing.
So... pump room? Cells?
Oh, and I had the bimbo in the attic just keel-over dead before I could drop the potion in the room too.... and one of the guards (the pacing one) up near the archery target keeled over while I watched from god knows what.

deathshadow: Yes, we could use more fonts. If anyone has any suitable true type fonts free of copyright and converts them then I'm sure we'd consider using them.
I'm working on a method for future FMs that lets players bypass story texts and clues for those who don't want them but meanwhile I can only answer in a forum. It may be you have already done most of the following...
total spoiler: Lift up the bedding in the attic and descend through the hole in the floor. Lockpick one of the doors to get into the library. Go to the table in the middle and stand on the north side (see compass in inventory.) Looking at the bookcase in front of you there is a shadowy area to your right. Pick up a chair and place it in that dark area and stand on it. Examine the books about eye level and one should highlight. Frob it. Walk further along to the right (east) to the next bookshelf and it opens up to reveal a secret room. There is one objective book in there. It has a summary at the start so you don't have to read it all. Make sure you get the housekeeper's key off the shelf in that secret room. If the bookshelf closes before you get out there is a lever under the shelf. In the housekeeper's room is the pump room key hanging on the wall.
Oh yes, in the pump room don't read the book as it has the worst font of all. Instead, search through the crates for a key and a door.
