Scytale@12th Sep 2006 12:48So I downloaded the .EXE fix for my version (1.33) and replaced the old Thief.exe. And now the "texture memory" error window is gone, but instead I just get a plain 'ole black screen. Changing hardware acceleration doesn't do anything, and with the fixed .EXE it won't run in software either. Thankfully I didn't completely delete the old executable, so I can experiment with both. Adding a "safe_texture_manager" to the previously blank user.cfg didn't help, nor did playing around with Windows compatibility modes. Reinstall didn't help either.
Same problem.
I have windows XP SP2.
Nvidia geforce 7800GTX (last drivers)
AMD opteron 170 Dual core (i run TDP with one cpu)
2GB RAM
Help plz.

it seems the game works if you turn off Hardware acceleration in-game before loading the mission. when you get into the mission then u can turn it back on.. somewhat tedious, but hey it works.

I tried this once, and it still crashed.

I figured it out!
If I start a level with software visuals and then turn acceleration on, it crashes when I try to exit the menu.
But if I load from a savegame after turning hardware on, it works perfectly. Odd.

Hiya. Just thought I'd share what worked for me. I've been having the exact same problem with my system, playing Thief Gold, using a Radeon 9800 pro, and I downloaded the relevant patch to no avail. However, on the off chance, I tried disabling compatibility mode and using the fixed exe, and lo and behold it works! Dunno if it'll work for you guys, but it's worth a try.
Cheers
