How to get silver nugget from the crane chain? It is too high to build ladder from crates or jump from wall. I also don't see any way to rotate crane. Some papers hint that something can be done with (big?) crates, but I do not see any actionable possibilities.

Hope you still have these...
Find a place that gives you a good view of it and make sure there's nobody near that area.
Next, ready your bow and shoot it off of the crane's chain. It will make a bit of noise, but it's doable without alerting anybody.

Tried when this came out and failed, now had another go and given up again. Always die trying to cross the lava.
Pity about this bit of Tomb Raider gameplay, I was enjoying the mission.
