How do I open the fireplace secret?

Important: Lord G has been updated by the author with an approved fix which addresses a mission-breaking bug whereby you could get to the final room without having met the loot goal, and thus be unable to end the mission. Download it from either mirror listed in the original post here.

Where is the
treasury key?
You need Lord G's key first. Look behind the greenhouse.

I have the Treasury key. That was a weird location for it.
Now I can't open the fireplace secret. Please spoil me on that.
Brief notes on the mission. I agree with most of the comments by others except one saying "it was easy". Playing on Expert, the party is big problem and frustration for me. I hide in the fireplace, take some loot, everybody flees, and the guards come. To avoid the guards I have to run quickly back into the fireplace. Repeat cycle for more loot, etc. Each cycle I have to wait for a long time for the AI to go off alert. This is really tedious. LIght switches are really necessary, IMO.

I finished version 1.1 playing on Expert, but with some difficulty.
I noticed a purse with a huge amount of loot in the treasury and an corresponding large loot-available stat. That allows the mission to be completed without the 1.0 version's difficult loot restriction, but now it is possible to complete the mission without taking any loot in the mansion proper.
I could never find the fireplace secret. I BJed all the AI in the mission and looked very carefully (I think) in the fireplace / party area and every place else in the mission. I found nothing in my search and no additional loot either. Please spoil me on the secret switch.
By the way, I had no difficulty finding the switch for the treasury hatch, which others have reported to be impossible. That said, the switch could be made a bit more obvious.
I found the light switches outside the building while looking carefully, but too late to be of use to me. That is a bizarre place to locate them.
Initially, I could not end the mission through the intended gate. I discovered that the gate cannot be frobbed unless you have read Humphrey's diary, which I had missed in my first go-around, pre-BJ run. That unknown connection between the diary and the gate is obscure and unnecessary, as it stands. If you had a mission objective to read Humphrey's diary, it would make sense.
In the course of my searching, I think I did not miss any obvious loot, yet I finished the mission missing 1245 loot. Is all that in the fireplace secret? If not where?
I agree with the others that the mission needs quite a bit of work and testing. However, I would like to compliment you on your effort to date and your willingness to let others see your work at this stage. Bravo!

To access the fireplace secret, crawl into the fireplace, then climb up one of the chimney walls. Alternatively, enter the chimney from the roof.

Thanks, Grandmauden. :) That did it. I did whack on that side and found a different, wooden sound, but who would have thought one could climb a smooth surface!
Now I am missing 245 loot, but I think I am done.

Important: Lord G has been updated again by the author (to v1.2) with an approved fix to remove a test setup which was left in the previous version by mistake. Download it from either mirror listed in the original post here.

I need 70 more loot to get to 4000.
I have these:
* Necklace and gemstone from bird's nest
* Purse on table on roof
* Two Fine Wine in servants' house (one on upstairs bed, one in downstairs storage alcove)
* Purse behind heater, upstairs in servants' house
* Purse and coinstack from safe in lounge (with fireplace) in room next to office
* The Eye from fireplace secret
Any ideas of what I missed? Are there any tiny rings? Tapestry in a dark spot on top of something?
Something in the large garden outside? Something else that you need to frob a switch to open?
