Great mission and very challenging too!
What to do with explosive charge?

Lord Taffer: Whatever you like!
DirkBogan: Thanks! :) The mission is definitely a labour of love, and I wanted it to have a certain mysterious beauty - a bit like Calendra's Cistern, which was one of my primary sources of inspiration.

When the guy I was supposed to protect from the ambush got to the destination safely I was glad to have accomplished my mission when the skull and crossbones appeared telling me I failed...LOL. Apparently the mines I placed beforehand on some of the X markings which I hoped would eliminate any bad guys that spawned there seemed to have also blown up a servant or aristocrat. So I had to start that part over and placed no mines at all. Then I was able to finish the game. I still don't know how to solve that puzzle in that room above the balcony. Also getting down from that balcony to the ground will cost a life or a lot of damage so I made sure to stack some boxes to jump down on.

Melan, I think I'm going to kill you ! (joke... ;-)
I though the city experience is very tough - a lot of hidden places, many gates closed, a lot of ways in highs, in vent shafts, etc. and hair tearing roof jumping (yes, that gas arrow, lock with big painted arrow on roof, and many others). But this was BEFORE Bernalt escort.
Because Bernault escort is the right hair tearing experience. I deleted all cross markings but still a lot of assasins spawn. I'm very bad at sword fight so arranging mines at assasin spawn position is a way. However positioning of mines is a terrible try and error experience and I'm missing mines. Moreover something unknown always disturbs Bernault and he run away to Grandmauden building. Objective not ticked nor failed death screen. I'm desperate.
Any hints please?
To be clear - the missions is great, amazing !!!

Bernalt is supposed to go to Grandmauden's building. You need to find a way inside.

I deleted all cross markings but still a lot of assasins spawn. If there are still assassins being spawn on Bernault path, that means you didn't in fact erased all cross markings. Check where assassins are located, reload save from before using bell lever, go to these places and search carefully. Some of these cross markings are very well hidden. As for something disturbing Bernault, maybe there are unconscious bodies lying in shadow nearby his path and he see them. This actually happened to me.

I have found that disturbing of Bernault causes him to run and he's able to avoid assasins when running. They're able to chase him but attempt to attack Bernault delays assasin so Bernault can run away...
Finished in 7 hours 29 minutes. Amazing mission.

I have not even finished yet. I haven't figured out a fraction of the mysteries that seem to be hidden.
But I just had to comment about how completely blown away by this incredible mission I am.
This is, hands down, the greatest cityscape ever in Thief. I have truly died and gone to Thief heaven. The nooks and crannies that are there to be explored, the incredible depth and scope of the design, the almost maniacal attention to detail, the diabolical cleverness of loot locations, the variety. . .
I cannot admire the work and thought that went into this project enough.
Greatest of all is that many areas require more than merely shooting a rope arrow here and there to get to them. Real exploring is necessary. Thinking outside of the box is called for at times.
I am having a blast and will actually be disappointed when I finish., and I absolutely refuse to read this thread to get any help. It's too much fun trying to figure it out on my own.

This just keeps getting better. Jaw-droppingly brilliant!
