I do realize that to avoid any conflicts, you can disable any texture packs and play the FM as intended. But, I normally use ep2 texture pack with everything, including fan missions (personal choice). It normally does not cause any issues for me. But just an FYI to anyone else who uses the updated version:
The latest updated version of ep2 11-27-21 can cause issues. There may be something corrupt in it (I will report to the ep2 thread later). In other missions, it seems fine - but with this one it causes very bad issues (older versions seem fine). I do not have any other mods whatsover running but ep2 (mod_path ep2\thief1+ep2).
The issues: when I go into areas like the open city areas, after about 30 seconds, the game starts lagging. When I go back into tight spaces (tunnels, small rooms, etc), the lag goes away. About 15 seconds after the lagging starts, textures like the eaves of buildings, doors, windows, etc start blinking white as if they lost their textures & the issue continually gets worse. This happens in window mode and non-window mode. I thought maybe the issue was the blinking lightsources (torches, candles, etc) that are popular to use now. But I can load several of skacky's missions that have them and they work fine.

The readme for this mission clearly states:
Quote:
This mission pushes the engine to the limit in more ways than one. It is absolutely playable but be advised that some expansive vistas can be pretty heavy and will slow the game down on weaker computers.
So if you use a texture pack that doubles the resolution of some of the original textures, its pretty easy to see why this would happen.

@ Estel
It's worth checking if your graphics drivers are up to date, the latest drivers can significantly reduce lagging due to excessive particle etc in open spaces..

Estel may also be right about something in the latest EP2 release being corrupted. We had a discussion on TTLG.DE recently concerning some very large (32 MByte) texture files in that pack. While investigating this a bit, I found a few textures that The Gimp would not load. The program reported these files as damaged. No idea whether that is right, though - it can also mean that the program is confronted with a newer version of a graphics file format which it cannot load yet, and a more recent version of Gimp possibly could.

Basically, I haven't done enough to reduce the texture memory usage of EP2, and so it's likely to make really resource-intensive FMs explode. Not really surprising, especially for an FM that specifically warns about using a lot of resources.

hi all - I'm diving into this mission and wanted to check on a possible sequence-break before I go much further.
I've found my way into the butcher's by banging on the front door and luring him outside to steal his key. And now I see that the burricks have dug tunnels into his shop. Will it break the mission if I explore the tunnels from this end, rather than the other end, as would seem to be the intention given the briefing?

I think I did just that on a second playthrough and noticed no problems after that. Keep your last savegame before doing the butcher trick, and then proceed. Should anything bad happen, you can always go back to the savegame and play it safe.

It won't break anything, the mission was designed with this in mind in case crafty players manage to do it.
