Finished this on Expert, 2:44 2566/3056 loot. I've got rather mixed feelings about much of the map.
Exploration: It was surprisingly small, but packed with places to go and explore, not merely for hidden loot but with scraps of story, some feeding into the main plot, and some separate. But I fell to my death so many times: the rooftops were full of narrow pipes and ledges, railings that were too small to mantle onto or jump off reliably. There was a ton of interesting climbing, and lots of good rope usage, but most of it was quite awkward and fiddly—thank goodness for quicksave! The interiors had a lot of variety and interest too, though they tended to be overly cramped.
Story: The briefing opened with a pretty clear statement of what was going on, but then confused me with its "sub-quarter of the Old Quarter" and the inventor wandering the woods, and the story of some group or other arming the beggars in the streets. So when the mission started, I wasn't really clear why I was doing things again. Perhaps that's on me. The whole break the core and repair it doesn't make sense, even though there's a readable there stating that repairing it won't actually make it work again, but okay. I was more bothered by the anticlimax: while breaking the core was dramatic and entertaining, repairing it was just putting it back in the box, then going back to the start. But I liked a lot of the smaller story fragments scattered around. The escaped "beast" from the museum (who I thought for the longest time was meant to be the "tongueless foolsie" with the incriminating info) was fun, but my favourite was the priest who'd barricaded himself inside the church to stop it being taken away from him. Great stuff.
Verdict: quite rough around the edges, but an entertaining mission for all that.

I've found 3 of the 4 parts-the one where you have to douse with the water arrow, the one you have to chase around on the rooftops, and the one in the scrappers forge
Where is the one I'm missing?

The one you're missing is somewhere behind the church.

My core memory is likewise totally fragmented, but isn't it somewhere wet near the portal machine?
(Btw, I play on expert.)

This part of story really confused me as well. So the whole thing is that you need to break the core in the way that the damage will not be visible. Otherwise inventor will go to woods and bring new core. And with core broken into 4 parts this makes visible damage. That's why you are forced to gather all core parts and fuse it. Which fix only physical form, but not magical properties. All this is shortly mentioned in the briefing and force you to deduce the conditions of the sabotage. The remedy for that would be giving player a scroll (at the start of the mission) with full explanation about sabotage conditions.

I've looked there and can't find anything-I'm sure I'm probably walking right past it.:p
EDIT: I just found it!
The part I was looking for was in the water pool in the machine room near where the core wasGreat mission! The 3d aspect of it was maze like at times-but the author has great dromed skills!

ciscokidd73: Look near Tudor's quarters.
Just finished this mission! I really loved the steampunk aesthetic, but it didn't feel too much like Thief 2, which is great. I also loved the choice of ambient sounds. It really does bring the final cutscene of Thief 1 to mind. Are there any other missions like this?

Didn't end this one, searched for nearly three hours every location twice and didn't find nor anything to damage the core of Lord Tudor's machine nor that valuable blueprint. What was even worse nice architecture but IMHO I get stuck too often in several narrow places and had to reload. :erg:
At least I played as a master thief and looted 2379/3056, more than enough on level hard. And received a Taffer Award. :D

zappen: Find the readable near the machine. It tells you what will damage the core.
Bigger hint: Activate all the switches and put something holy into the portal.
