On the other hand, TDP has a similiar plot hole :
The Hammers just team up with Garrett once the Trickster and his minions attack them, and they also decide pretty fast to make a counterfeit Eye to twart the Trickster's plans. Always left me baffled... :erg:
I don't quite see what you are driving at there.

Well you know what they say... sometimes necessity makes for
STRANGE BEDFELLOWS. Maybe they should have referenced that in the mission.

I know. ;)
Well, the only logical explanation would be, that a few days have past between Strange Bedfellows and Into The Maw of Chaos.

Days, weeks, and months pass between most TDP/Gold and TMA missions. Only TDS lumps all the missions into consecutive days.
The Keepers told Garrett that Constantine went into the Maw of Chaos, the Hammers constructed a fake Eye, à la Jack Vance's Cugal's Saga, and so there's some time in there, not to mention the Hammers and their High Priest took back their temple first.

Yup. And unfotunately, that complicates a few things. Quite a lot. :) :cheeky:

...not to mention I managed to beat up most of the creepies with Garrett alone. :laff: Ah, those crazy old Hammers... :tsktsk:

A couple of days as an explanation for being less hostile? Now come on... It's still not completely believable.

What were the designers thinking?!
They weren't. Most of the plot feels like an afterthought that was tacked on to link the missions together.
I really wonder if the guys who came up with the story/missions/factions/etc had actually played the original games. TDS as a whole is a complete train wreck compared to Thief I/II.
But hey, like Warren Spector said they didn't intend TDS to be a game for "M.I.T. Grads" who enjoy a rich plot and stealthy gameplay. Who would want a game like that? :tsktsk:

The sad truth is, look how much better this method worked out with MA, and see the shit it caused in DS. I think that the general story of DS is pretty cool, and it introduces some of the best places in the Thief universe, but the "refinements" they added to the whole gameplay are more like "defilements".
And the saddest thing... I was playing DS the other day, and in the Old Quarter I spied a bug. That Anti-Hammer bug. And godsdamn Hammerite was standing right next to it!
OK, so I thought of a little experiment... I was allied with the Hammers. I aimed and zeroed on the bug, release broadhead, bammm!
And the f*cking Hammerite attacked me.Seriously, what shit is this?

I'd probably react in the same manner if you blew up a beetle right in front of me.
Herr_Garrett on 18/2/2009 at 18:43
The problem is, the Hammerite did not pay any attention to the bug. Instead of flourishing his hammer and bringing it upon the filthy rust mite's feelers with an enraged cry of 'I shall smite thee mightly!', he just stood there, with that extremely stupid smile on his face that DS AI have.
And when I did his dirty work, he attacked me...
At least the programmers could have, well, programmed some script for such occasions. Maybe making the AI jump up and down on the bugs, or that sort of thing.
