I installed T: DS yesterday on my new rig after not having played it for two years, and I encountered something odd.
On the mission load screen a window pops up and says, "Thief: Deadly Shadows has encountered a problem and needs to be shut down.", but a few seconds later, the window minimizes to the Taskbar and the mission loads as it normally would. This didn't happen on my previous PC. Has anyone else had this occur? I searched to no avail. This problem isn't so much a show-stopper as it is annoying...just wondering if there was any way to kill it.
Specs:
Q6700
2GB RAM
8800GT
790i MoBo
WinXP SP2
I also don't have any mods, disk cracks, or GarretLoader installed.

Hey, I have nearly the same problem! If I load a mission or if I swap between the loadzones the game minimizes and I see my desktop. After a few seconds (really short time) it changes again to the game without problems or an errormessage! I have Windows Vista...

On loading a saved game, I get the same "Error" screen, but the SAVE loads and the game runs fine.
The message shows for a few seconds, clears and the load is continuing the entire time. On my original install (years ago) that did not occur. I don't know what changes in the system may have caused it to happen now. But if I just ignore it the game runs fine except for that little distraction.
I suggest you just ignore it for about 30 seconds and see what happens. If the game loads the SAVE and runs, just live with it. Unless, of course, some genius comes up with a viable solution.

Oh I can live with it. As I said, it's not a show-stopper, just annoying. I'm sure it probably has something to do with these damned 8800 drivers. T: DS never seemed to like GeForce cards very much; the game ran better on my old 9800XT Pro. Oh well.
