scrapped rough draft briefing for "St. Edgar's Eve":
"I've been contracted by the Keepers to go and obtain a sacred Hammer relic from our Hammer friends at St. Edgar's Church. So far, my plan is to knock on the front door brandishing a fire crystal and a couple of mines, hoping they just peacefully fork this chalice over . . . but, the hammerites have never been much known for giving in to the likes of me, so I might end up having to rough some of them up, and gain entry to their church by my usual methods. I'll try to stay to the shadows, but should I be noticed, I'll have to start keeping a tally - my friend Percy has a bet with me that I can't rack up a 30 head body count in one night . . . well, he doesn't know the hammers very well, either.
"My list of supplies ran a bit dry from that run on the Rutherford Castle, so I'll have to swing by Stonemarket and pick up a few more gas, moss, and fire crystals. The fountain out front of my apartment will top off my supply of water crystals, too. I'm good with the 30 broadheads I have right now, besides, I don't use these as often, too quiet. Hopefully, I won't run into Benny again on the city streets tonight, he gave me a good run last time, and from all this equipment I was worn out after getting back home. I was near late on my rent from having to recoup for a couple of days. But, should he want to say hi, I've got a few nice flash bombs I can introduce him to. It's a shame, though . . . all this equipment means I don't have room for any rope arrows, but then again, it's a struggle to climb a rope with all this weight.
"By the time I'm done with the Hammers, I'm sure the Pagans will go ahead and clear out of the sewers, which should make obtaining their Paw a walk in the breeze."

lol. What don't you understand? My inspiration came from
Bruce Lee: Enter The Dragon. Rambo is capable of devastating destruction. Hence, Garrett entering the symbol of Rambo means he, too, will be capable of devastating destructing. And, oh, how the Guardsmen shall woe that coming.
My apologies if English isn't your first language. The phrasing implies that Garrett is entering Rambo in the same way that people enter houses and cars and things. That's the less innuendo-filled way of interpreting Garrett entering Rambo, anyway.

English is my first language. There's a philosophical/semantic twist to the phraseology of "enter" used here. I, for one, interpreted the title of Bruce Lee's movie as Bruce Lee's transformation into the dragon, which is a symbol of power, i.e., Bruce Lee is becoming the dragon. Another way of interpreting it is "The dragon enters," but this seems much too prosaic for my tastes.
My title was a playful twist on another movie title, one which is open for interpretation. Maybe you're not American, so the movie reference went over your head.

Har, har, har.

Ok, this whole reply is kind of a cradle-spoiler, but I assume most of us have already played it.
I was just thinking about the Cradle for some reason. . what I think would have made it even scarier is that. .well, everyone knows you can't kill the puppets. . at least on the expert level, but what I think would have made it even better is if after you flash bombed (holy watered, etc) a puppet it falls to the ground "dead" . .but after a given amount of time it gets back up and lurches around furious, seeking revenge on the taffer who took him down. This would result in a hyper-alert angry hissing puppet breaking out of its regular patrol path to wander around the cradle hunting you.
Just imagine it: each corridor you wander down there's the regular puppet patrols, but there's always the chance of running into that one (or two or three) rogue puppet, jumping out from around the corner screeching and flailing at you.
This would encourage you not to take down so many puppets, but there can be situations made where you have no choice but to take down one. There's really nothing we can do about it now, but it's just an idea. . .sure would heighten the fear factor for me, at least.

Of course you can. A few fire arrows or mines and they're down for good. Of course, they look the same when they're down for good as they do when they're ready to jump up and scare the shit out of you, which only serves to add to the tension of the whole Cradle environment.

I think some folk ought to take a good hard look at T3's predecessor (without rose-tinted glasses) before aiming their criticisms solely at this game. T2 may serve as a more elaborate thieving space, but that doesn't excuse the jumbled mess of sloppy ideas that it is. I personally rank it the lowest of the three.
Well, I'm replaying T2 at the moment, and I think I'm too critical and cynical to ever be accused of wearing rose-coloured glasses. I'm finding T2's plot intriguing, it's ambience immersive and its gameplay (still) challenging.
Whatever the "sloppy ideas" are that you're referring to, they certainly aren't interfering with my enjoyment of the game. So I'm willing to excuse them ;)

I said on the expert level. :p
Unless you can actually kill them on that level? I have heard strongly otherwise.

Hmmm... I suspect you're right, LadyT. I played Cradle before the fix for the savegame bug came out, so even though I started it on Expert, after the first time I loaded a save, it was actually Normal and so I didn't realize until now that they're unkillable on Expert.
Gvozdika on 6/3/2007 at 11:03
They are killable on expert. Why dont you people just try.
As for the T3 less scary thing I couldnt disagree more. I realize this is a very personal matter but at least Thiefbot makes T3 somewhat reasonable regarding the sensorial capabilities of the guards. Nothing is more frightening than the knowledge you actually CAN be spotted if you get too close. Like you would experience it in real life. Nothing like a guard bumping into you in (supposedly?) pitch black darkness without noticing you on expert skill in T2. If there are similar mods for T1 and T2 Id really love to learn about them.
