I suppose it's possible that my old machine could have handled TDS just fine, but I certainly needed a video card upgrade since my old one didn't support Pixel Shader, and at the time one that did cost enough where it really wasn't worth the upgrade on its own. Now I finally collected my fecal matter to the point where I put together a new box, and the graphics are running smooth.
I don't remember why I stopped playing FMs in T1&2, but I did for a couple of years. But now I'm starting again. I have to say that despite expectations, TDS feels very much like a Thief game -- in some ways. It's disappointing that even on expert we don't seem to have a prohibition on killing, and that levels seem designed so far so that you actually need to kill, or at least KO, your enemies. I have a few other complaints about map design, but that's not what this is about.
ATM I'm having considerable trouble with the sound. I'm near the beginning, on the Pagan Tunnels mission, and every so often all sound but the background music cuts out. It happens whether I'm using hw acceleration or not, and it's been happening so frequently as to interfere seriously with game play. More than once I've been losing life and wondering momentarily why, only to look around and see there's someone silently whacking me with a sword. Not even any effects from the sword, and of course no earlier audible clue I'd been noticed. Reloading the game fixes it, but this is happening so often it's too annoying to deal with that way. Anyone else encounter this?
