I couldn't find anything about this with the search function, so here goes:
I recently reinstalled TDS to try out some of the fan missions, but I've got a bug that I didn't have the first time around. Any time during the mission I go to an external screen, either the map, or one of those annoying "tip" screens when you pick up an arrow, and then return to the game, a nearby sound (dripping water, frex) is suddenly played at extremely high volume. It continues to play even if I leave the area.
Exiting to the menu and saving the game, then returning (without reloading) fixes the problem, for some reason. But it's highly annoying, especially when I'm trying to play at night with my daughter sleeping a few rooms away. :p
Anyone point me to a solution for this? My sound card is the same as it was the first time I played the game, so I'm a little confused about why this cropped up.

sounds nasty
no idea
use earphones for maximum effect for thief in any case though, and to protect other people from game sounds
just be aware of yourself.. i've woken up members of my family several times by screaming when i got spooked by something, and not realizing i had been vocal

I have seen a similar issue with Thief 2, when going out of full screen (pressing the windows button) then going back in, the volume of 1 (although it could be any) sound effect is massive for a few seconds then reverts to normal. I have always put it down to the program C-media mixer on my PC though.

I have experienced similar issue with Hitman: Bloodmoney. I think it is the soundcard drivers, not the games fault. I have Sb Audigy 4 with latest drivers.
