I don't know if this was brought up before, but why didn't the Hag destroy some of the artifacts when she had it? Like the paw and the chalice in her lair? Wouldn't that effectively 'destroy' the glyph? Or does she need all five to perform some sort of ritual to destroy the glyph effectively, so that it cannot be unlocked via other means?
EDIT: Added spoiler tags.

I don't think it was explained in the fiction, but I suppose she couldn't destroy them in front of the Keepers because they'd ask questions.
In her lair though, well....
My assumption is that they're like some kind of odd mystical imprint in the city. I mean in the case that if you destroy one (or More) they find a way to get themselves rebuilt.
Another paw would be cut and sanctified, another chalice cast, another crown made...
It might buy you a little time, but you'd also have to find the new incarnation, which could be caused anywhere in the city.

My theory is that the Hag needed the Artifacts placed the way they were for some ritual, but if Garrett, and only Garrett, placed the artifacts in the same way, it would activate the Final Glyph.

Yes, my impression is that she wanted to place the artifacts herself in order to obtain the final glyph and then destroy it.
Destroying the artifacts might not be possible. They do possess power and will of their own and can affect the minds of others. Gamall thrashed the Keepers because she was far stronger at glyph magic which is what they tried to fight her with, but the artifacts might not have their power based in glyph magic.

Are all the artifacts conscious, or was it only a few that have become sentient?
DarkThiefsie on 27/9/2006 at 08:54
I think they are all sentient - but only the eye and the heart can speak (persay - i haven't heard the heart speak yet). I think you may be right though - i remember a cutscene wherein artemus said that Gamall needed all the artifacts in order to 'have the power' to destroy the final glyph. Weird that those 5 artifacts together can destroy and activate the glyph.

Well when you think about it, if you need those artifacts placed in the right areas to access and activate the final glyph, then it seems sensible to assume that the same artifacts would be necessary to access and destroy that same glyph.
