Cyberpunk, William Gibson, System Shock, the 80s. So where do we stand on CRT displays? Well I don't know about us as a community, but on a CRT monitor the red tones usually stand slightly to the left and the green ones slightly to the right, you know? Makes everything look nice and retro.
Seriously though, a friend of mine found this gem: (

Technolust is a true cyberpunk game designed for the Oculus Rift. I'm sure there'll be the option to play without Rift but for now the demo is Rift exclusive. I got warm fuzzy feelings from watching their promotional video. I mean it almost seems as if they are resurrecting the gibsonian spirit of System Shock. Their implementation of Cyberspace looks amazing.

Bald head-beard-scarf combo puts me off. Then I watched the rest of the video. Looks okay if you're into that sort of thing. It's all a bit passe now isn't it?

On the contrary! Fashion travels in cycles and the kind of cyberpunk that existed in the 80s is definitely making a return: (

Also (
http://www.routinegame.com/) Routine is kind of the same style with old CRT-monitors and floppy disks. I can link others if people want.

I know it cycles. I think I'm just bored of it.

I don't think it's passe at all. (
http://www.blendogames.com/qc/) Quadrilateral Cowboy is another game that will be doing the old school cyberpunk thing, and then there's the talk of Arkane making the new Prey game into a System Shock inspired title.

How many decent retro-inspired sci-fi games have we had, basically ever? Hard Reset? Everything else (Routine, Alien Isolation, Prey 2, Quadrilateral Cowboy, Cyberpunk 2077, Enemy Starfighter) has been talked about but none of them count until I actually have them installed on my HD.

I love its style. I hope it's rather open world.
You know what I really wish for is a platform for cyberpunk fan missions. I think this genre may be good for a steady stream of small bite sized missions, then I can get both a fantasy and a cyberpunk fix. SS2 might have been that but it wasn't really mission based or open to a very big world outside a ship, and anyway it's ancient tech now.
But it doesn't happen unless some big project puts together the interface and gameplay, it can be mission based, it's more than just FPS and can be good for storytelling (but there's still lots of good gameplay), and then releases an editor & makes all those great assets available. I don't know how likely that is to happen any time soon though.

David Pittman, one of the Bioshock devs, is working on (
http://neonstruct.com/blog/) Neon Struct. It looks very minimalist (just like Eldritch), but it's coming with a level editor. I don't have a clue how flexible it will be, especially when the game is being described as pure stealth.

Well it's something. But the point of posting it here is that I'd love for FMs to have the look of this Technolust game. Just from watching the videos, it really nails the look and feel of the genre, and it doesn't look like just a gimmick one-trick-pony game, like games in this genre (post Deus Ex) tend to be I think.
Speaking of DX, I wouldn't trust FMs for DXHR even if they could be made because the gameplay is limited for it, although granted I'd love access to its assets too.

Good lord, practically every sound effect and line of dialogue in that trailer was lifted from somewhere else.
