When Tool managed to arrange KC to open for them on a tour I remember them saying that they were worried everybody would know who they were ripping off all of these years. I don't see a massive connection myself, but there are moments if what I HAVE listened to that really are almost a complete ripoff. At least they admitted to it.
I guess it feeds into the progression of prog rock thing that has been mentioned. Sometimes I hear things in Rush that are under the surface that tool just shoved in everyones faces. King Crimson feels the same way for me. Being a Tool fan I never found it easy to get into Rush and King Crimson, but I'm always listening to them through that colour of lens, and I find it easy to pick out moments and motives in the music that definitely translated forward.

What about Isis? Tool was a big inspiration on them (incidentally, I much prefer Isis, which is probably why they broke up and Tool is still around :mad:)
